Aizawl District
Aizawl district is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. The district is bounded on the north by Kolasib district, on the west by Mamit district, on the south by Serchhip district, on the southwest by Lunglei district and on the east by Champhai district. The district occupies an area of . The headquarters of the district is Aizawl city, the capital of Mizoram. As of 2011 it is the most populous district of Mizoram (then out of 8, now 11). Etymology The district is named after its headquarters, Aizawl city. In the Mizo language, ', also known as ', refers to a species of turmeric while ' means ''plain'' or ''field''. The name of the city was probably derived from the abundance of the ' in the area during previous years. The Indian state of Mizoram is divided into 11 districts. History When Mizoram became a union territory on 21 January 1972, it was divided into three districts: Aizawl, Lunglei and Chhimtuipui. Later five more districts were carved out of the already existing three districts. Administrative structure A district of Mizoram is headed by a Deputy Commissioner who is in charge of the administration in that particular district. He has to perform triple functions as he holds three positions as the deputy commissioner, the district magistrate and the district collector. As a deputy commissioner he is the executive head of the district. The district magistrate is responsible for maintaining the law and order situation in the district. Mizo Language
The Mizo language, or ''Mizo ṭawng'', is a Kuki-Chin-Mizo language belonging to the Tibeto-Burman family of languages, spoken natively by the Mizo people in the Mizoram state of India and Chin State in Myanmar. The language is also known as Duhlian and Lushai, a colonial term, as the Duhlian people were the first among the Mizos to be encountered by the British in the course of their colonial expansion. The Mizo language is mainly based on Lusei dialect but it has also derived many words from its surrounding Mizo sub-tribes and sub-clan. Now, Mizo language or ''Mizo ṭawng'' is the ''lingua franca'' of Mizoram and its surrounding areas and to a lesser extent of Myanmar and Bangladesh and in India in some parts of Assam, Tripura and Manipur. Phullen
Phullen is a town in Saitual district, in the Indian state of Mizoram. As per the Constitution of India and Panchayati Raj Act, Phullen is administrated by a Village Council who are the elected representatives of the village. It is located east of the district headquarters Aizawl, which is also the capital of Mizoram. Phullen is a Block headquarters of Phullen Block, which is bounded by Darlawn Block towards west, Ngopa Block towards East, Thingsulthliah Block toward south, and Aizawl district in the north.
