Apparanda Aiyappa
Lieutenant General Apparanda Chengappa Aiyappa, (2 September 1913 – 1983), better known as A. C. Iyappa was an Indian Army officer and decorated World War II veteran. He was the first Indian Signal officer in chief (Head of the Indian Army Corps of Signals). Iyappa was also the first chief of the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Early years Iyappa was born on 2 September 1913 during the British Raj, into the wealthy and influential Apparanda family which belonged to the Kodava community of Kodagu. He studied in Bishop Cotton Boys' School, Bangalore and later in Stamford School, Lincolnshire in England. After college he went on to join the Indian Military Academy and from there got a commission into the British Indian Army. Len Aiyappa (born 31 March 1979) is an Indian professional field hockey player. He remained one of India's best drag-flickers until he retired from the national team following a fallout with the Indian Hockey Federation in 2006. He last played for India during the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2005. Career Aiyappa, playing for Karnataka Lions in the inaugural season of the World Series Hockey, became the top scorer for the team and third overall by scoring 13 goals in 12 games. Pramila Gudanda Aiyappa (née Ganapathy) (born 8 March 1977 in Kodagu, Karnataka) is an Indian heptathlete. She made her official debut for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she placed 24th in the women's heptathlon event, with a total score of 5,548 points. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Aiyappa made a comeback from her eight-year absence to compete for the second time in women's heptathlon, along with fellow athletes Shobha Javur and Susmita Singha Roy. She initially placed 28th out of 43 heptathletes in the event, with a total score of 5,771 points, but was elevated to a single higher position, when Ukraine's Lyudmila Blonska was stripped of her silver medal after testing positive for methyltestosterone.
