Airports In The Philippines
This is a list of airports in the Philippines, grouped by type. Classification Regulation over airports and aviation in the Philippines lies with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). The CAAP's classification system, introduced in 2008, rationalizes the previous Air Transportation Office (ATO) system of airport classification, pursuant to the Philippine Transport Strategic Study and the 1992 Civil Aviation Master Plan. The list is updated every three years, or as the need arises. In the current classification system, 88 airports owned by the national government are placed into one of three main categories: 1. International airports are airports capable of handling international flights and have border control facilities. Airport
An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. Airports usually consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off and to land or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals, to maintain and monitor aircraft. Larger airports may have airport aprons, taxiway bridges, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services. Subic Bay International Airport
Subic Bay International Airport ( fil, Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Look ng Subic; ) serves as a secondary and diversion airport for Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila and Clark International Airport in Pampanga. It also serves the immediate area of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, the provinces of Bataan and Zambales, and the general area of Olongapo in the Philippines. The airport was known as the Naval Air Station Cubi Point, part of the Subic Naval Base of the United States Navy, before the base closed. History In 1950, Admiral Arthur W. Central Mindanao Airport
Central Mindanao Airport ( hil, Hulugpaan sang Katunganan Mindanao), formerly North Cotabato Rural Airport and also known as the M'lang Airport, is an airport serving the general area of M'lang, located in the province of Cotabato in the Philippines. It is the only inland airport of Mindanao with capability for commercial flights. It occupies of lands with a -long concrete runway and a terminal building. The airport is primarily intended to support the transport of agricultural produce from the central part of Mindanao. History The Central Mindanao Airport was conceptualized by the Cotabato provincial government under then-Governor Emmanuel Piñol. Mindoro Airport
Vigan Airport ( ilo, Pagtayaban ti Vigan, fil, Paliparan ng Vigan) , also known as Mindoro Airport, is an airport serving the general area of Vigan, the capital of the province of Ilocos Sur, located in the province of Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. The airport is the only one located in Ilocos Sur, at Barangay Mindoro (and not on the island of Mindoro). It is classified as a community airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, the part of the Department of Transportation that is responsible for the operations of all airports in the Philippines except the major international airports. Previously, the airport was considered by the city government as a "sleeping asset", since no revenue was generated from its operations. Siquijor Airport
Siquijor Airport , is a community feeder aerodrome serving the general area of the town of Siquijor, located in the province of Siquijor in the Philippines. The airport is classified as a community airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. Airport facelift and expansion On March 1, 2018, upgrade works in the airport begun. The airport upgrade project covers the construction of a new passenger terminal building, a power station, and a vehicle parking area. Construction was finished on July 30, 2021, and was later inaugurated on August 26. Other upgrade works in the airport includes the runway extension and asphalt overlay, scheduled to be completed in June 2022. General Aviation
General aviation (GA) is defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as all civil aviation aircraft operations with the exception of commercial air transport or aerial work, which is defined as specialized aviation services for other purposes. However, for statistical purposes ICAO uses a definition of general aviation which includes aerial work. San Vicente Airport
San Vicente Airport ( fil, Paliparan ng San Vicente) is an airport in San Vicente, Palawan, Philippines. The airport was opened for general aviation flights on 22 June 2017, and opened for commercial flights by the end of 2017. The airport was built to boost tourism in the town and as an alternative to much smaller El Nido Airport. Travel to this part of northwest Palawan usually takes three hours by land from the provincial capital, Puerto Princesa, located 186 kilometers away. With the airport in operation, travel between Puerto Princesa and San Vicente has been reduced to less than 30 minutes. Labo Airport ( Cebuano: ''Tugpahanan sa Labo''; Filipino: ''Paliparan ng Labo''; ), also known as Ozamiz Airport, is an airport serving the general area of the city of Ozamiz in the Philippines. It is the only airport in the province of Misamis Occidental. Sanga-Sanga Airport ( Sinama: ''Lapagan Sanga-Sanga''; Filipino: ''Paliparan ng Sanga-Sanga'') , also known as Tawi-Tawi Airport, is the airport serving the general area of Bongao, the capital of the province of Tawi-Tawi in the Philippines. The airport is classified as a Class 2 principal (minor domestic) airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), a body of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) that is responsible for the operations of not only the airport but also of all other airports in the Philippines except the major international airports.
