Transport in Kosovo consists of transport by land and air. Kosovo is complicated by political issues relating to international recognition. The country declared Independence in 2008 from Serbia. It currently has 101 diplomatic recognitions from members of the United Nations. Transport links to the north are fractured as Serbia does not recognise Kosovo's independence. Kosovo is recognised as sovereign by all other countries with which it shares a border. After the Independence, improvements to the road infrastructure, urban transport, and air travel have all led to a vast improvement in transportation. Batlava-Donja Penduha Airfield or Batlava Airport (Albanian: ''Aeroporti i Batllavës''; Serbian: Аеродром Батлава / ''Aerodrom Batlava'') is a former military airport in the village of Dumosh, near Lake Batlava and the towns of Batlava and Podujevo in Kosovo. History In 1936, Aeroput used the airport on the Belgrade- Podujevo-Skopje line using the Aeroput MMS-3 plane. The airport was later rebuilt for military use by the Yugoslav army and air force. Podujevo ( sr-Cyrl, Подујево), Podujeva, or Besiana ( sq-definite, Podujevë or ''Besianë''), is a city and municipality in Kosovo's Pristina District. Slatina Air Base
Slatina Air Base ( sq, Aeroporti Sllatina; sr, Аеродром Слатина / Aerodrom Slatina), located at Pristina International Airport Adem Jashari, contained the second largest military underground hangar complex in the former Yugoslavia. After the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, the airfield was used by KFOR. Before the Yugoslav military withdrawal, Slatina was home to the 83rd Fighter Aviation Regiment and its 123rd and 124th squadrons. These squadrons were equipped with MiG-21 Bis and MiG-21 UM aircraft. Historical value of the air base During the NATO's operation against Yugoslavia 83rd fighter squadron of Yugoslavian Air Forces was based in Slatina.
