Airport Station (MTR)
Airport is a rapid transit station on the of Hong Kong's MTR system. It serves the Hong Kong International Airport, and is integrated with the passenger terminal. It is also the westernmost railway station in Hong Kong. History The station was built at the same time as the new Hong Kong International Airport, constructed on a platform of reclaimed land in order to replace Kai Tak Airport in the urban core. In October 1993, the Airport Authority Hong Kong appointed Ove Arup and Partners to develop the concept design for the new airport's Ground Transportation Centre (GTC), which includes Airport station. Arup, Foster and Partners, and Anthony Ng Architects completed the detailed design of the GTC. Construction began in 1995. The main contractor was Nishimatsu Construction. Chek Lap Kok
Chek Lap Kok is an island in the western waters of Hong Kong's New Territories. Unlike the smaller Lam Chau, it was only partially leveled when it was assimilated via land reclamation into the island for the current Hong Kong International Airport, which opened for commercial aviation in 1998. The airport is popularly referred to as ''Chek Lap Kok Airport'' to distinguish it from the former Hong Kong International Airport, now commonly known as Kai Tak Airport (). Hong Kong SkyCity, a business and entertainment complex, is also located on Chek Lap Kok. It includes AsiaWorld–Expo, a convention and exhibition centre, which opened in 2005. Airport Authority Hong Kong
The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA or AAHK) is the statutory body (governed by the Airport Authority Ordinance (Cap. 483)) of the government of Hong Kong that is responsible for the operations of the Hong Kong International Airport. Airport Express (MTR)
The Airport Express is one of the lines of the Hong Kong MTR system. It links the urban area with the Hong Kong International Airport and the AsiaWorld–Expo exhibition and convention centre. It is the only rail link to the airport's terminal. It runs parallel to the Tung Chung line, a traditional rapid transit line, from Hong Kong station to just south of the channel between Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok, on which the airport was constructed. The line continues to the airport and terminates at AsiaWorld–Expo. The Tung Chung line terminates in the adjacent Tung Chung new town, with bus service to various areas at the airport, including the passenger terminals. MTR Stations In The New Territories
The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is a major public transport network serving :Hong Kong. Operated by the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL), it consists of heavy rail, light rail, and feeder bus service centred on a 10-line rapid transit network serving the urbanised areas of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. Side Platform
A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). AsiaWorld–Expo is the western terminus of the of the Hong Kong MTR. It serves the AsiaWorld–Expo in the northeast corner of Chek Lap Kok, the island on which the Hong Kong International Airport is located. The AsiaWorld–Expo is an exhibition centre designed to host large scale events located adjacent to Hong Kong International Airport. The Airport Express was extended with a new station at AsiaWorld–Expo to accommodate visitors and organisers.
