Airaines
Airaines () is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Geography The commune is situated north west of Amiens, about south of Abbeville, at the junction of the D901 and D936 roads. Hamlets and neighbourhoods * Dourier : Originally a hamlet to the northeast of the town, now a suburb. * Dreuil-Hamel : Stretching out to the west, sprinkled with orchards and meadows, this commune was once separate. By decree of 26 September 1972 it was joined with Airaines in a simple merger. Population History * In earlier times, the town flourished, due mainly to the importance of the castle of the dukes of Luynes. * During World War II, the town was subject to much destruction in June 1940. Kriftel
Kriftel is a municipality in the Main-Taunus district, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated 16 km west of Frankfurt (centre). It has about 11,000 inhabitants. Kriftel is also commonly known as "Fruit Orchard of the Anterior Taunus" (''Obstgarten des Vordertaunus''), because of the fields around it which are mainly used for producing strawberries. History In July AD 754, the track which carried the dead Saint Boniface rested in the village over night. To the honour of the saint, the Bonifatiuskapelle (chapel of Boniface) was built. Kriftel was first mentioned documentary in 790. The Thirty Years' War damaged Kriftel including the chapel, which was not rebuilt until 1755. It took so long because a big fire destroyed almost the entire village (34 houses out of 38) in 1661. Charles N'Tchoréré
Charles N'Tchoréré (16 November 1896 – 7 June 1940) was a Gabonese French military officer who was shot by Germans in World War II. Early life Charles N'Tchoréré was born on 16 November 1896 in Libreville, French Gabon. The second of four children in a Mpongwe family, his father worked as an agent for a German commercial firm in German Kamerun. His parents arranged for him to be educated at the Catholic École Montfort. He performed well as a student and while he was there befriended several persons who would later become politicians, including Léon M'ba, Louis Bigmann, and Laurent Antchouey. He completed his studies in 1912. Upon the death of his mother, N'Tchoréré went to Doula to work with his father and older brother.
