Air Secretary
The Air Secretary and Chief of Staff, Personnel is the Royal Air Force officer with responsibility for appointments, promotions, postings, and discipline of high ranking members of the British air force. From 1978 to 1983 the Air Secretary was more often referred to as " Air Officer Commanding Royal Air Force Personnel Management Centre". It is a senior RAF appointment, held by an officer holding the rank of air vice-marshal and appointed by the sovereign. The Air Secretary's counterpart in the British Army is the Military Secretary and the Royal Navy equivalent is the Naval Secretary. Royal Air Force
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world, by regrouping the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). Following the Allied victory over the Central Powers in 1918, the RAF emerged as the largest air force in the world at the time. Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history. In particular, it played a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain. John Barraclough (RAF Officer)
Air Chief Marshal Sir John Barraclough (2 May 1918 – 10 May 2008) was a Royal Air Force pilot during the Second World War who went on to become Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff. Early life Barraclough was born on 2 May 1918. He was educated at Cranbrook School, in Cranbrook, Kent. Military career Barraclough joined the Artists Rifles in 1935. He was commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1938. Barraclough served in the Second World War flying maritime patrol aircraft. On 29 October 1940, it was gazetted that he was promoted to flying officer on 3 September 1940. However, on 14 January 1941, this was substituted for the granting of the war substantive rank of flying officer back dated to 12 August 1940. David Stubbs (RAF Officer)
Air Vice Marshal David John Stubbs, is a senior Royal Air Force officer. He previously served as the Commandant of Royal Air Force College Cranwell from 2012 to 2013, and the Air Secretary from 2013 to 2016. Matthew Wiles
Air Vice-Marshal Matthew John Gethin Wiles, (born 1961) is a retired senior commander in the Royal Air Force who previously served as the Air Secretary. Wiles was commissioned into the Royal Air Force as a flying officer in 1979. Air Vice Marshal Michael Guy Lloyd, was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force who served as the Air Officer Commanding No. 22 Group from 2011 until 2014. Air Chief Marshal Sir Simon Bryant, (born 20 June 1956) is a former Royal Air Force officer, who served as Commander-in-Chief of Air Command, and he was the second-most senior officer in the service until this post was dis-established in March 2012. Air Marshal Peter William David Ruddock, (born 5 February 1954) is a former senior commander in the Royal Air Force who served as Air Secretary from 2004 to 2006. Graham Miller (RAF Officer)
Air Marshal Sir Graham Anthony "Dusty" Miller, (born 31 October 1951) is a retired senior Royal Air Force officer. RAF career Miller joined the RAF as a craft apprentice in 210th entry, No. 1 School of Technical Training, RAF Halton in 1967. In 1969 he qualified as a junior technician at RAF Halton and was commissioned as an acting pilot officer on 2 January 1970 together with fellow member of 210th entry craft apprentices, Junior Technician Michael David James King. Air Vice Marshal Ian Michael Stewart, is a former senior commander in the Royal Air Force who served as Air Secretary from 1998 until his retirement in 2003. RAF career Stewart joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a pilot in 1969. Air Vice Marshal Richard Anthony "Tony" Mason, (born 22 October 1932) is a retired senior commander of the Royal Air Force who became Air Secretary.
