Air Force Home Guard
The Air Force Home Guard ( da, Flyverhjemmeværnet), is part of the Danish Home Guard. Its mission is to support the Royal Danish Air Force, the police and other national authorities in their emergency management by securing airports, performing aerial environmental patrols of national waters. Aircraft The Air Force Home Guard operates two leased Britten-Norman Defender BN2A-21 aircraft flown by volunteer civilian pilots. The Defenders entered service in February 2016. Organization The Air Force Home Guard is commanded by a full-service air force colonel. The commander is supported by a small staff of full-service personnel. Municipalities with airfields or in the vicinity of airports have "air force home guard squadrons" – (100–150 riflemen), commanded by volunteer captains. Home Guard (Denmark)
The Danish Home Guard ( da, Hjemmeværnet) (HJV) is the fourth service of the Danish military. It was formerly concerned only with the defence of Danish territory, but since 2008, it has also supported the Danish military efforts in Afghanistan and Kosovo. Service is voluntary and unpaid, though members' loss of income from time taken off work, transport expenses and other basic expenses are compensated. However, workshop and depot staff plus clerks and senior officers are all paid. The unarmed Women's Army Corps (''Lottekorpset'') was merged in 1989 with the then all-male Home Guard to form the present, armed unisex Home Guard. Its top authority is the General Command (HJK) which is managed directly by the Danish Ministry of Defence (FMN). Only in times of tension and war will the Danish Defence Command (VFK) assume command over the Home Guard. Luftmeldekorpset
The (LMK; ) performed aircraft recognition during WWII, and a nuclear warning role from 1952, whilst retaining the aircraft recognition role due to the proximity of Warsaw Pact countries until 1991. The LMK was disbanded in 2004. Cooperation with the Royal Observer Corps Following the Second World War, the Danish Home Guard sought to develop the LMK, and looked to an organisation with a similar role, the Royal Observer Corps (ROC) of the United Kingdom. Aircraft recognition competitions between the LMK and ROC took place annually until 1991, despite the ROC no longer having an operational role of aircraft recognition. Honours remained roughly even over the history of the competitions, with the four man ROC team taking the trophy in the final contest. Varde
Varde is a Danish city in southwestern Jutland and is the primary city in the municipality of Varde, in Region of Southern Denmark. In 2015 municipality changed its motto to "We in nature" to emphasize its rural atmosphere. The town has an old market environment and is located by Varde stream/river and is a short distance away from the beaches by the North Sea. These features make it a tourist destination. Air Base Karup
Air Base Karup is the main air base of the Royal Danish Air Force. It is situated within Midtjyllands Airport, 3 km west of Karup in mid-Jutland. The air base covers 3000 hectares of land of which only a third is inside the operational area marked by a 17 km long fence. History The air base was constructed by the Luftwaffe during the German Occupation in 1940 under the name "Einsatzhafen Grove" (later ''Flieger-Horst Grove'') to facilitate offensive operations against England. Aarhus Airport
Aarhus Airport is a civilian airport located northeast of Aarhus, Denmark. History The airfield was established in 1943 by German occupying forces in World War II and was later used as a Cold War military base for the Danish and other allied airforces until the 1990s. The airport still contains a small military depot and plays host to occasional training exercises; the last NATO exercise was in 2007. Malling is a village in Denmark, located about south of Aarhus. It has a population of 6,194 (Jan 1, 2020). Geography Malling is situated only from the sea, surrounded by hills, swatches of farmland and patches of woodlands and meadows.
