Ailsa Berk is a British dancer, actress, and puppeteer. She is well known for playing Aslan on British television with William Todd Jones in ''The Chronicles of Narnia'' television serial which was aired by the BBC from 1988 to 1990. Berk has been a choreographer in a number of episodes of ''Doctor Who'' from 2005 to 2009. Ailsa Lister (born 8 April 2004) is a Scottish cricketer. In October 2020, Lister was named in Scotland's squad to play Ireland at the La Manga Club during their tour of Spain. However, the matches were called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2021, Lister was again named in Scotland's squad to face Ireland, this time for a four-match Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) series in Belfast. She made her WT20I debut on 24 May 2021, for Scotland against Ireland. Ailsa Mary-Ellen Piper (born 1959) is an Australian writer, director and performer. Career Acting Ailsa Piper worked as an actress in theatre in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne from the early 1980s until 2000. She made her first appearance on TV in 1984 in '' Man of Letters'', but is best known for playing Ruth Wilkinson in the soap opera '' Neighbours'' from 1996 until 1999. She reprised the role in a cameo for the series' 20th anniversary in 2005. Piper is an accomplished narrator of audio books, and continues to work in this field. Ailsa Margaret O'Connor (née Donaldson) (26 January 1921 – 3 February 1980) was an Australian artist specialising in sculpture and painting in the style of realism. Following her belief that art and artists cannot be separated from questions of society and politics, she was an activist against social injustice in Australia and abroad, and particularly against suppression of the rights of women. Ailsa McKay (7 June 1963 – 5 March 2014) was a Scottish economist, government policy adviser, a leading feminist economist and Professor of Economics at Glasgow Caledonian University. She was noted for her research on gender inequalities and the economics of the welfare state, for her contributions to feminist economics, as a leading proponent of the universal basic income concept and as one of the UK's foremost experts on gender budgeting. Ailsa Diane McGilvary (also known as Ailsa McGilvary-Howard) is a New Zealand bird conservationist, and photographer. Banded dotterel conservation Research In 2012, McGilvary noted from casual observations at South Bay, Kaikōura that the banded dotterels or pohowera nesting there were having poor breeding success, with failures of all the nests that she had located. She launched a self-funded project, the Banded Dotterel Study, in the 2015/16 breeding season to systematically monitor the bird's breeding success. Of the 20 nests studied in the 2015/16 season, there were only eight chicks hatched, and just one fledgling survived. The study has continued over multiple breeding seasons, confirming the poor breeding success, with the leading cause being cat predation of eggs, chicks and adult birds. Early life and education Ailsa Giles Macdonald was born in Gourock on 16 December 1922, to Douglas Macdonald a railway manager, and his wife Grace, a school teacher. Ailsa Horton Land (; 14 June 1927 – 16 May 2021) was a Professor of Operational Research in the Department of Management at the London School of Economics and was the first woman professor of Operational Research in Britain. She is most well-known for co-defining the branch and bound algorithm along with Alison Doig whilst carrying out research at the London School of Economics in 1960. She was married to Frank Land, who is an Emeritus Professor at the LSE. Ailsa Mellon Bruce (June 28, 1901 – August 25, 1969) was a prominent American socialite and philanthropist who established the Avalon Foundation. Early life Ailsa was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on June 28, 1901. She was the daughter of the banker and diplomat Andrew W. Mellon and Nora Mary (née McMullen) Mellon (1879–1937). Her parents divorced in 1912 and from 1921 to 1932, Ailsa served as her father's official hostess during his tenure as United States Secretary of the Treasury, and again when he was U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom in 1932–1933. Ailsa Macgregor Keating is a French and British mathematician specialising in symplectic geometry and homological mirror symmetry. She is a professor in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Cambridge. Education and career Keating grew up in Toulouse, France.
