Aidan Brady
Aidan Brady (1930 – 3 April 1993) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club side Elphin and at inter-county level with the Roscommon senior football team. He was named on the "Roscommon team of the millennium". Career Born in Elphin, County Roscommon, Brady first came to Gaelic football prominence at Summerhill College in Sligo, where he was also selected for the Connacht colleges team. A minor with Roscommon in 1948 and a junior in 1951, he was reserve goalkeeper to Gerry Dolan for the 1951 Connacht Championship before taking over as first-choice 'keeper the following year. The following decade saw Brady win four Connacht Championship titles, while he also ended up on the losing side in the 1962 All-Ireland final. He lined out at full-back for the Elphin club, winning five County Championship titles, while his inclusion on the Connacht team saw him claim two Railway Cup medals. National Botanic Gardens (Ireland)
The National Botanic Gardens (Irish: ''Garraithe Náisiúnta na Lus'') is a botanical garden in Glasnevin, 5 km north-west of Dublin city centre, Ireland. The 19.5 hectares are situated between Glasnevin Cemetery and the River Tolka where it forms part of the river's floodplain. The gardens were founded in 1795 by the Dublin Society (later the Royal Dublin Society) and are today in State ownership through the Office of Public Works. They house approximately 20,000 living plants and many millions of dried plant specimens. There are several architecturally notable greenhouses. The Glasnevin site is the headquarters of the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland which has a satellite garden and arboretum at Kilmacurragh in County Wicklow. 1962 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final
The 1962 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the 75th All-Ireland Final and the deciding match of the 1962 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, an inter-county Gaelic football tournament for the top teams in Ireland. This marked the first occasion on which the final was televised. Pre-match Roscommon played Sligo in the 1962 Connacht final and were behind for much of the match. Sligo were blighted by a sudden string of injuries, missed a 50 while two points ahead in the final minute, and then gifted soon-to-be All-Ireland finalists Roscommon a goal, allowing them to progress at Sligo's expense in what is considered "one of the great football tragedies in Connacht". Connacht Inter-provincial Gaelic Footballers
Connacht ( ; ga, Connachta or ), is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the west of Ireland. Until the ninth century it consisted of several independent major Gaelic kingdoms (Uí Fiachrach, Uí Briúin, Uí Maine, Conmhaícne, and Delbhna). Between the reigns of Conchobar mac Taidg Mór (died 882) and his descendant, Aedh mac Ruaidri Ó Conchobair (reigned 1228–33), it became a kingdom under the rule of the Uí Briúin Aí dynasty, whose ruling sept adopted the surname Ua Conchobair. At its greatest extent, it incorporated the often independent Kingdom of Breifne, as well as vassalage from the lordships of western Mide and west Leinster. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43.
