Ahmed Rachedi (born 1938) is an Algerian film director and screenwriter. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture for the film '' Z'' (1969), which he helped produce. His 1971 film '' L'Opium et le Bâton'' was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1981 film ''Ali in Wonderland'' won a Special Prize at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. Tébessa
Tébessa or Tebessa ( ar, تبسة ''Tibissa'', ''Tbessa'' or ''Tibesti''), the classical Theveste, is the capital city of Tébessa Province region of northeastern Algeria. It hosts several historical landmarks, the most important one being the wall that surrounds the city and its gates. The city is also known for its traditional Algerian carpets. Tébessa was home to over 190,000 people in 2007. Name Tebessa, written ' in French, was known to the ancient Greeks as () or (, 'Hundred Gates'). This was Latinized as ''Theveste''. History In antiquity, Theveste formed part of the Roman empire. After the establishment of the Roman Empire, the 3rd Augustan Legion was based in Theveste before being transferred to Lambaesis. A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. Z (1969 Film)
''Z'' is a 1969 Algerian political thriller film, directed by Costa-Gavras, with a screenplay by Gavras and Jorge Semprún, based on the 1966 novel of the same name by Vassilis Vassilikos. The film presents a thinly-fictionalized account of the events surrounding the assassination of the democratic Greek politician Grigoris Lambrakis in 1963. With its dark view of Greek politics and its downbeat ending, the film captures the director's outrage about the junta that then ruled Greece. The film stars Jean-Louis Trintignant as the investigating magistrate, an analogue of Christos Sartzetakis, who would be the Greek president from 1985 to 1990. International stars Yves Montand and Irene Papas also appear but, despite their star billing have very little screen time. Maurice Failevic
Maurice Failevic (14 August 1933 – 27 December 2016) was a French film director. A communist, he directed 50+ films about class struggles, depicting the lives of members of the French working class, from peasants during the French Revolution to the unemployed, factory workers and banlieue dwellers in the 20th century. He directed films for cinema and television as well as documentaries. He was the recipient of several awards for his work, including the ''Prix de la critique'' from the International Critics' Week twice, the ''Fipa d'or'' and the ''Fipa d'argent'', and the Grand Prix from the Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques. On his death, the French Culture Minister, Audrey Azoulay, said he "stood for an activist approach to cinema, based on his commitment to political and social engagement".
