Ahmed Duale Gelle ( so, Axmed Ducaale Geele; born 8 July 1949) was the 5th president of Galmudug State of Somalia, in office from 3 May 2017 to 2 February 2020. Before he became Galmudug’s president he was a businessman and former federal parliament member. Background Personal life Gelle was born in 1945 in the city of Galkayo, situated in the Mudug, region of Somalia and hails from the Sacad subclan of Habar Gidir. Gelle stands from the Habar Gidir Hawiye clan Education Gelle graduated from Somali National University in Mogadishu, Somalia with Bachelor of Arts in Economics in between 1960-1970. Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islaam Madobe ( so, Sheekh Axmed Maxamed Madoobe) is the President of the Jubaland State of Somalia. Background Islamic Courts Union As a member of Islamic Courts Union (ICU) Madobe was governor of Jubaland, in 2006. When the ICU was overthrown by Ethiopian National Defense Force he fled towards the Kenyan border when he was wounded, and later received medical treatment at an Ethiopian hospital. He was later arrested by the Ethiopians. When the Somali parliament expanded to 550 MPs he was elected as an MP in January 2009 and released from the Ethiopian prison. Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a
Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ) ( so, Ahlu Suna Waljamaaca) is a Somalia-based paramilitary group consisting of moderate Sufis opposed to radical Salafism. The group opposes hardline capital punishment or limb amputations advocated by extremist interpretations of Islam, as well as laws banning music and khat. They oppose the demolition of religious shrines and stoning. Background The Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a was formed in 1991, before the existence of Al-Shabaab, in opposition to Salafi Islamist groups such as Al Ittihad Al Islamiya. Originally the group focussed on community religious affairs and was not primarily a militant organization.
