Ahmad Mohamed Ibrahim
Ahmad bin Mohamed Ibrahim (15 May 1916 – 17 April 1999) was a Singaporean lawyer and law professor who served as the first Attorney-General of Singapore between 1965 and 1967. Early life Ahmad was educated in Victoria Bridge School (now Victoria School), Raffles Institution, and Raffles College (now the National University of Singapore). In 1936, he received the Queen's Scholarship (now known as the President's Scholarship) to study in St John's College, University of Cambridge. He graduated in 1939 with 1st Class Economics Tripos I and 1st Class Law Tripos II, then attained the Masters in Law in 1965. He was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D) from the University of Singapore on 5 June 1965. Career In 1948, Ahmad stood as an independent candidate in the Municipal Commission Election in Singapore and won. Malay Titles
The Malay language has a complex system of styles, titles and honorifics which are used extensively in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the southern Philippines. Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and several provinces in Indonesia regularly award honorary and life titles. What follows in this article is specific to the Malaysian system. References to Brunei and Indonesia are given when pertinent. In Malaysia, all non-hereditary titles can be granted to both men and women. Queen's Scholars (British Malaya And Singapore)
The Kings's Scholarships (formerly Queen's Scholarships} are forty-eight scholarships (eight per year until Sixth Form, then twelve per year) at Westminster School, (re)founded in 1560 by Queen Elizabeth I. The scholars take part in the coronation in Westminster Abbey, acclaiming the new monarch by shouting "Vivat". They also have the right to observe Parliament. They have the abbreviation KS (formerly QS) on school lists; their house is "College". Twelve- and thirteen-year-old boys annually compete for eight of the annual scholarships in a competitive entrance examination known as the Challenge.
