Pan American Men's Handball Championship
The Pan American Men's Handball Championship, also called PanAmericano, was the official competition for senior national handball teams of North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. It took place every two years and was organized by the Pan-American Team Handball Federation. In addition to crowning the Pan-American champions, the tournament also served as a qualifying tournament for the IHF World Men's Handball Championship. In 2018, the PATHF was folded and the tournament was replaced with the South and Central American Championship and North America and Caribbean Championship. 2016 Pan American Men's Handball Championship
The 2016 Pan American Men's Handball Championship was the 17th official competition for senior men's national handball teams of North, Center, Caribbean and South America. It was held from 11 to 19 June 2016 at the Tecnópolis in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It also acted as the qualifying competition for the 2017 World Men's Handball Championship in France, securing three vacancies for the World Championship. Brazil won the tournament for the third time after defeating Chile 28–24 in the final. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The 2015 World Men's Handball Championship was the 24th staging of the World Men's Handball Championship, organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF). The final tournament was held for the first time in Qatar, from 15 January to 1 February 2015. The Qatari bid was selected over those of Norway, Poland and France after a vote by the IHF Council on 27 January 2011, in Malmö, Sweden. This was the third time that the World Championship was hosted in the Middle East And North Africa, after Egypt in 1999 and Tunisia in 2005. France won the final against Qatar 25–22 to win their fifth title, a first in handball history while Qatar won their first ever medal. Poland captured the bronze medal by defeating Spain 29–28 after extra time. Denmark secured the fifth place by winning against Croatia which finished sixth and thus had the worst result in the past 13 years of international handball competing. The International Handball Federation (IHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball.
