Cabo de Santo Agostinho (English: Cape of St. Augustine) is a 448 square kilometer sized municipality located 35 kilometers south of the city of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. It is believed by some historians that Vicente Yáñez Pinzón had set anchor in a bay in Cabo de Santo Agostinho on January 26, 1500, however the Portuguese discovery of Brazil was by Pedro Álvares Cabral on April 21, 1500 is officially recognized instead. José Maria de Santo Agostinho, born Miguel Boaventura Lucena (died 22 October 1912), was a Brazilian religious leader from the state of Santa Catarina. He was the third of three monks named João Maria who appeared in turn in southern Brazil, preaching and healing with herbs. He was the original leader of the peasants in the unsuccessful Contestado War (1912–16), and was killed in one of the first encounters with government troops. Life José Maria de Santo Agostinho was formerly the soldier Miguel Lucena de Boaventura. He settled in Taquaraçu, Santa Catarina, where he gained a reputation for healing powers. He resurrected a young woman thought to be dead and cured the wife of a colonel of a disease that the doctors had proclaimed uncurable. He was literate, which was unusual in among the local country people, and wrote notebooks of herbal recipes. Joaquim Fernandes Agostinho, OIH (7 April 1943 – 10 May 1984) was a Portuguese professional bicycle racer. He was champion of Portugal in six successive years. He rode the Tour de France 13 times and finished all but once,''International Cycle Sport'', UK, 1984 winning on Alpe d'Huez in 1979, and finishing third twice. All total he finished in the top 10 of a Grand Tour eleven times, made three podiums and won a total of seven stages between the Vuelta and Tour. Gílson Domingos Rezende Agostinho (born September 18, 1977 in Taubaté) more commonly known simply as Gilsinho, is a former Brazilian footballer who played as a striker.
