Agnostidae
Agnostidae is a family of Agnostida trilobites. Like all Agnostina, they were eyeless and bore only two thoracic segments. They ranged in benthic waters across the globe from 508 to 461 million years ago, containing the following genera, among others: *'' Acmarhachis'' *''Agnostus ''Agnostus'' is a genus of agnostid trilobites, belonging to the family Agnostidae, that lived during the late Middle Cambrian – early Upper Cambrian (about 506 to 492 million years ago). Agnostus
''Agnostus'' is a genus of agnostid trilobites, belonging to the family Agnostidae, that lived during the late Middle Cambrian – early Upper Cambrian (about 506 to 492 million years ago). It is the type genus of the family Agnostidae and is subdivided into two subgenera, ''Agnostus'' and ''Homagnostus''. Etymology ''Agnostus'' is from the Ancient Greek άγνωστος (''ágnostos'') "unknown", and reflects the fact that early paleontologists did not know what type of animal with which they were confronted. The species epithet has this origin: * ''pisiformis'' derives from the Latin ''pīsum'' which means "pea", and ''forma'' meaning "shape", for its globe-like appearance when rolled. Description ] Like all Agnostida, ''Agnostus'' is diminutive and the headshield (or Cephalon (arthropod head)#Trilobites, cephalon) and tailshield (or pygidium) are around the same size (or isopygous) and outline. As in all Agnostina, ''Agnostus'' has two thorax segments. When Agnostina ar ...

Peronopsis
''Peronopsis'' (meaning "broach-like" or possibly "boot-like") is a genus of trilobite restricted to the Middle Cambrian. Its remains have been found in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. Etymology The subgenus ''Svenax'' is a contraction of Sven Axel, the given names of the paleontologist Tullberg. Taxonomy Position of ''Peronopsis palmadon'' ''Peronopsis palmadon'' is intermediate between Peronopsidae and Condylopygidae, but it is not clear whether ''P. palmadon'' is ancestral to the Condylopigidae, a condylopigid exhibiting regression towards ancestral characters, or an example of parallel evolution. Species previously assigned to ''Peronopsis'' * ''P. acadica'' = '' Acadagnostus acadicus'' * ''P. bifidus'' = '' Pseudoperonopsis bifidus'' * ''P. bonnerensis'' = '' Pentagnostus (Meragostus) bonnerensis'' * ''P. brunfloensis'' = '' Redeagnostus brunfloensis'' * ''P. bulkurensis'' = '' Pentagnostus (Meragostus) bulkurensis'' * ''P. columbensis'' = '' Pseudo ...

Acmarhachis
''Acmarhachis'' is a genus of trilobite in the order Agnostida, which lived in what are now Australia (Queensland, Tasmania), Canada (British Columbia, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories), China (Anhui), Kazakhstan, Russia (Kharaulakh), and the US (Alaska, Alabama, Nevada, Maryland, Vermont). It was described by Resser in 1938, and the type species is ''Acmarhachis typicalis''. Distribution * ''A. typicalis'' occurs in the Cambrian of Kazakhstan (Kyrshabakty River, ''Lejopyge laevigata''-trilobite zone, Zhumabai Formation, Paibian and Cambrian Stage 9, 43.5° N, 70.0° E). * ''A. whittingtoni'' is known from the Upper Cambrian of Canada (Hickey Cove, ''Dunderbergia''-trilobite zone, Downes Point Member, Shallow Bay Formation, Paibian, Newfoundland, 49.8° N, 57.9° W). Lotagnostus
''Lotagnostus'' is a genus of very small trilobites in the order Agnostida, which lived on the outer continental shelves worldwide, during the late Upper Cambrian. It was described by Whitehouse in 1936, and the type species is ''Lotagnostus trisectus'', which was originally described as a species of ''Agnostus'' by Salter in 1864. Taxonomy The Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology divides ''Lotagnostus'' into three subgenera that differ in the degree of effacement: ''L. (Lotagnostus)'' Whitehouse, 1936 (neither cephalon nor pygidium strongly effaced), ''L. (Distagnostus)'' Shergold, 1972 (strongly effaced on the outer/dorsal surface, but with clear furrows on the inner/ventral surface and ''L. (Eolotagnostus)'' Zhou ''in'' Zhiqiang Zhou, li & Qu, 1982 (with even the inner/ventral surface strongly effaced). Later authors however consider it likely that creating these subgenera would render the nominate subgenus paraphyletic. Biostratographic significance The first appearance ...
