Agniko Katha
''Agniko Katha'' (Nepali:अग्निको कथा]) is a play in Nepali by Abhi Subedi. Aarohan Theatre prepared ''Agniko Katha'' for stage show for the first time in 2003 and performed at its own theatre in Kathmandu. Later, the play was taken abroad for shows in other Asian countries and Europe. Aarohan staged this play more than a hundred times at different locations worldwide. Sunil Pokharel was the director of this play. Abhi Subedi
Abhi Subedi ( ne, अभि सुवेदी) is a Nepali poet, playwright, linguist, columnist, translator and critic, who writes in Nepali and English. Biography Abhi Subedi was born in Sabla village of Tehrathum district in eastern Nepal. He was the 21st child of his father and the 7th child of his mother. He recognized Bengali letters before Devnagari scripts after seeing his mother read Bengali epic Kashiram Das's Mahabharata. Education Abhi Subedi was offered a British Council scholarship to the University of Edinburgh in 1978 and completed his post-graduate degree. He wrote about his struggle for education viz a viz the Thatcher government's cut on foreign scholarships and grants and the bureaucratic malice of his university back home. He earned a Ph.D on the pragmatics of poetry from Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur and did postgraduate work in stylistics and applied linguistics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Sunil Pokharel ( ne, सुनील पोखरेल; born on 16 June 1963) is a Nepali theatre artist and director. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern Nepali theatre. He is a graduate of National School of Drama, India (1987).He is also the brother of popular Nepalese singar Sugam Pokharel He has directed more than four dozens of varied Nepali, Indian and European plays. Early life Sunil Pokharel was born in Noula village, in Khotang District in Nepal on 16 June 1963 as the first child of his parents. ''Baikuntha Express'' (Nepali:वैकुण्ठ एक्सप्रेस) is a play written by Mohan Raj Sharma . It was published in 1985 by Sajha Prakashan. The book was awarded Madan Puraskar in 2042 BS. Synopsis The play portrays a story of a travel in a mini bus. The bus has a driver, a helper and 17 passengers, and it is going to ''Baikuntha'' (the paradise). During the play, the bus keeps on moving and various events occurs inside as the bus pass though various imaginary places. Reception The book received the Madan Puraskar for 2042 BS (c. 1985). ''Malati Mangale'' ( ne, मालती मङ्गले) is a musical drama written by Madhav Prasad Ghimire in 2039 BS (AD 1982–83). One of author's most popular works, and considered one of the best ballets by Nepali poets, it is based on true events from a village in Gorkha. Adaptation It was recorded for the first time as a musical recording in 2044 BS (AD 1987–88). Ghimire brought together music composer Ambar Gurung and singer Narayan Gopal, who were not on speaking terms at the time, to collaborate on the cassette recording of the play. Narayan Gopal could not be convinced to work together with singer Tara Devi; the two recorded their duet with a partition wall between them in the recording studio. ''Yajnaseni'' ( ne, :ne:याज्ञसेनी; is a play in Nepali by Suman Pokhrel. The play is based on the Sanskrit epic The Mahabharata and Odia novel '' Yajnaseni'' by Pratibha Ray. This play has been staged in Nepal, India and USA. Suman Pokhrel rendered the story into a solo play in Nepali by bringing the character Yajnaseni alone in the scenes. Pokhrel has personalized the play while maintaining the basic concept of the original story of Draupadi. The story revolves around Draupadi, who is also known as Yajnaseni and is one of the lead characters from the famous Sanskrit epic ''Mahabharata''.
