Agnes Ludwig Riddle
Agnes Ludwig Riddle (born 1865 - died 5 May 1930) was an American politician who served as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1911 to 1914 and in the Colorado Senate from 1917 to 1920. She was the first woman to serve in both chambers of the Colorado General Assembly. Biography Agnes Ludwig was born in Germany around 1865. She emigrated to the United States in 1882. She was a nurse and midwife, and worked at a hospital in Colorado before she married. Agnes Ludwig met Joseph M. Riddle on July 15, 1890 in Denver, Colorado. The couple had no children of their own, but they adopted and raised six nieces and nephews. Career Riddle was the Secretary and Organizer for the Colorado State Grange, and strengthened the organization. They donated land to create Glendale Grange. She worked with her husband on their dairy farm, and became known as the "dairy legislator" because she maintained her job delivering milk before going to the House of Representatives. R ... Colorado Women's Hall Of Fame
The Colorado Women's Hall of Fame is a non-profit, volunteer organization that recognizes women who have contributed to the history of the U.S. state of Colorado. As of 2020, 170 women have been inducted. History There was a short-lived recognition program established in Colorado in 1965 to honor the contributions of women to the state, known as the Colorado Women of Achievement awards. Each year, three honorees from throughout the state who had distinguished themselves in their profession or avocation were recognized at an annual banquet held in Denver, given a cash award, and received a pin with the emblem of the program, which was sponsored by the Columbia Savings and Loan Association. This is a timeline of women's suffrage in Colorado. Women's suffrage efforts started in the late 1860s. During the state constitutional convention for Colorado, women received a small win when they were granted the right to vote in school board elections. In 1877, the first women's suffrage referendum was defeated. In 1893, another referendum was successful. After winning the right to vote, Colorado women continued to fight for a federal women's suffrage amendment.
