Aghvan Vardanyan
Aghvan Arshaviri Vardanyan ( hy, Աղվան Արշավիրի Վարդանյան; born on October 7, 1958) is an Armenian politician, former member of the National Assembly of Armenia, and former minister of labor and social affairs. Biography Vardanyan was born in 1958 in the village of Gemur in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of the Azerbaijan SSR. He studied at Yerevan State University from 1977 to 1982 in the Faculty of Philology. From 1982 to 1987, Vardanyan served as the executive secretary of the ''Yerevan University'' newspaper. For the next three years, Vardanyan worked for ''Aghbyur'' and ''Garoun'' magazines, and in 1987, became a member of the Writers Union of Armenia. He joined Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) party in 1990, and until 1993 served as secretary of the Writer's Union of Armenia. Yerkir
''Yerkir'' (, literally "Country") is the official newspaper of the Supreme Body of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). The first issue of ''Yerkir'' was published on August 27, 1991 in Yerevan. Since April 2002 it is also published in Beirut, Lebanon, in traditional Armenian orthography. The paper was published as an 8-page daily until the end of 2001. It reached its highest circulation (56,000 copies) in 1993–1994, the largest circulation of the Armenian press of the last ten years. In January 2002 (circulation 2,500 copies) ''Yerkir'' became a 20-page weekly. On December 28, 1994 then President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian banned the ARF by his decree. 2021 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 20 June 2021. The elections had initially been scheduled for 9 December 2023, but were called earlier due to a political crisis following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War and an alleged attempted coup in February 2021. Nikol Pashinyan, who had served as Prime Minister since 2018, resigned in April 2021 and subsequently the seventh National Assembly was dissolved on 10 May. Pashinyan continued to serve as acting prime minister until the elections were held. Following the election, Pashinyan's Civil Contract party received 54% of the vote and won 71 seats, a majority in the 107-seat parliament. The opposition Armenia Alliance, finished second with 29 seats, while the I Have Honor Alliance won 7 seats. No other party or alliance surpassed the electoral threshold required to win a seat. Nikol Pashinyan
Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan ( hy, Նիկոլ Վովայի Փաշինյան, ; born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician serving as the prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018. A journalist by profession, Pashinyan founded his own newspaper in 1998, which was shut down a year later for libel. He was sentenced for one year for defamation against then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. He edited the newspaper ''Haykakan Zhamanak'' ("Armenian Times") from 1999 to 2012. A supporter of Armenia's first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, he was highly critical of second president Robert Kocharyan, Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan, and their allies, frequently referring to them as the "Karabakh Clan". Pashinyan was also critical of Armenia's close relations with Russia, and promoted establishing closer relations with Turkey instead.
