''Against Me!'', more commonly known as ''Tom's Demo Tape'', or simply the ''First Demo'', is a demo album and the first release by Laura Jane Grace under the name Against Me! in June 1997. It was recorded on December 25, 1996, by Laura Jane Grace at her mother's house in Naples, FL. Physical copies of the tape are extremely rare; (likely non- existent at this point), however, all 6 tracks can easily be found circulating on YouTube. Against Me!
Against Me! is an American punk rock band formed in 1997 in Naples, Florida, by singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace. That same year, Grace moved to Gainesville, Florida, which is considered the band's hometown. Since 2001, the band's lineup has also included guitarist James Bowman. After releasing three studio albums through independent record labels, Against Me! moved to Sire Records for 2007's '' New Wave'', which reached no. 57 on the ''Billboard'' 200. In 2011, the band launched the record label Total Treble. In 2012, Grace publicly came out as a transgender woman. After a long period of line-up changes and uncertainty surrounding the band's future, their sixth studio album, '' Transgender Dysphoria Blues,'' was released independently in January 2014 to critical and commercial acclaim. Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice. The standards of sound quality ( fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Laura Jane Grace
Laura Jane Grace (born Thomas James Gabel; November 8, 1980) is an American musician best known as the founder, lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the punk rock band Against Me!. In addition to Against Me!, Grace fronts the band Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers, a solo project she started in 2016. Grace is notable for being one of the first highly visible punk rock musicians to come out as transgender, after she publicly came out in May 2012. She released her debut solo studio album, '' Stay Alive'', in 2020. Against Me! (2000 EP)
''Against Me!'', the self-titled 12" EP by punk band Against Me! was their first EP release. It was released twice as an EP. There were originally 500 copies printed. However, due to a mastering defect or "recording error" on the vinyl, only 145 copies were originally released to the public, 50 of which were sold at the record release party. Thus, actual copies of the record are extremely rare, though the tracks are widely circulated on the internet. The remaining 355 copies were eventually released through personal sales by the band. The discography of Gainesville, Florida-based punk rock band Against Me! consists of seven studio albums, four EPs, two live albums, two DVDs, fifteen singles, five demos, and sixteen music videos. Against Me! was formed in 1997 by singer/guitarist Laura Jane Grace as a solo act, occasionally performing with backing musicians. After releasing several demos and EPs the band released their debut studio album, '' Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose'', through No Idea Records. Their second album, 2003's ''Against Me! as the Eternal Cowboy'', was released by Fat Wreck Chords.
