Agadir ( ar, أݣادير, ʾagādīr; shi, ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ) is a major city in Morocco, on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean near the foot of the Atlas Mountains, just north of the point where the Souss River flows into the ocean, and south of Casablanca. Agadir is the capital of the Agadir Ida-U-Tanan Prefecture and of the Souss-Massa economic region. The majority of its inhabitants speak Berber, one of Morocco's two official languages. Agadir is one of the major urban centres of Morocco. The municipality of Agadir recorded a population of 924,000 in the 2014 Moroccan census. The Kasbah of Agadir Oufla ( shi, label=Shilha language, Tashelhit, ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ ⵓⴼⵍⵍⴰ, ''Agadir Uflla'') is a historical landmark in Agadir, Morocco that housed the old city of Agadir, much of which was affected by the earthquake that struck the city. The fort is located on the top of a mountain rising 236 meters above sea level in the north of the town of Agadir near the current port. Name ''Agadir Oufla'' is the local name of the Kasbah of Agadir. The word "Agadir" means "fort", and "Oufla" is an Berber languages, Amazigh word meaning "above". Agadir Ofla, therefore, implies the fortress at the top.
