Afrasiyab ( uz, Afrosiyob),( fa, ''afrāsiyāb'') is an ancient site of Northern Samarkand, present day Uzbekistan, that was occupied from c. 500 BC to 1220 AD prior to the Mongol invasion in the 13th century.Archaeological Research in Central Asia of the Muslim Period', World Archaeology Vol. 14, No. 3, Islamic Archaeology (Feb., 1983), pp. 393-405 (13 pages) The oldest layers date from the middle of the first millennium BC. Afrasiyab Badal bey oghlu Badalbeyli ( az, Əfrasiyab Bədəl bəy oğlu Bədəlbəyli) (19 April 1907, in Baku – 6 January 1976, in Baku) was a Soviet Azerbaijani composer, with noble Iranian origins (he was the descendant of Bahman Mirza and Abbas Mirza," conductor and music critic, author of the music and libretto of ''Giz Galasi'' ('' The Maiden Tower''), the first Azerbaijani ballet and the first ballet in the Middle East. Life Afrasiyab Badalbeyli was born to Shusha natives Badal and Rahima Badalbeyli in 1907. At the time, the Badalbeylis were already becoming known as a family of great musicians.
