African Sun Limited, is a Zimbabwe based hospitality management company established in 1968. It operates in the hospitality and leisure industry through a number of hotels, resorts, casinos and timeshare operations throughout Zimbabwe and South Africa. It is listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the Zimbabwe Industrial Index. History The group spun off from the Delta Corporation in 2003 with Shingi Munyeza as CEO. In 2011, African Sun retrieved from the management of The Grace hotel in Rosebank, Cape Town. By 2012, it managed 1,000 rooms. In 2009, Africa Sun welcomed the US President Barack Obama in its Holiday Inn-managed hotel at the Accra airport (in Ghana). In January 2015, the company sold its hotels in Ghana and Nigeria, and announced a year later its withdrawal from regional operations to focus on its domestic market. Shingi Munyeza
Shingi Albert Munyeza (born 17 September 1966) is a Zimbabwean businessman. He was the head of the Zimbabwean hotel chain, African Sun and stepped down in 2015 to pursue personal interests as part of his calling as a "marketplace apostle in advancing the kingdom of God". Early life and education Munyeza was born to Fredrick Munyeza and Damaris Gwata, where he was the first born of six children. At the age of two, he moved to Inyanga to reside with his grandmother, later on attending primary school there at Tamunesa Primary School. Munyeza moved to the capital city, Salisbury (now Harare) in 1978 where his parents had relocated to the neighbourhood of Marimba Park. Zimbabwe Fuel Protests
Protests began in Zimbabwe on 14 January 2019 following a 130% increase in the price of fuel imposed by the government of Emmerson Mnangagwa. Thousands of Zimbabweans protested against the price increase, along with increasing levels of poverty, the poor state of the economy, and declining standards of living. The government responded with a coordinated crackdown that resulted in hundreds of arrests and multiple deaths. The protests stopped after three days; by 17 January, businesses started reopening as the protests ended. Harare Gardens
Harare (; formerly Salisbury ) is the capital and most populous city of Zimbabwe.
