African People's Socialist Party

Omali Yeshitela
Omali Yeshitela (born Joseph Waller on October 9, 1941) is an African revolutionary, political leader, theoretician and author. He is the founder and chairman of the African People's Socialist Party, which leads the Uhuru Movement. According to its Constitution, the African People's Socialist Party is the "''advanced detachment of the African working class and its general staff,"'' pursuing the goal of "the liberation and unification of Africa and African people under the leadership of the African working class as a critical component of the struggle to overthrow imperialism." Yeshitela is the founder of ''The Burning Spear'' newspaper, the official journal of the African People's Socialist Party which has been in publication since 1968. African Socialist International
The African Socialist International (ASI) in the United States, is an organization set up by the African People's Socialist Party at that party's first congress, in 1981. The resolution for the organization's creation called for all African socialists to unite into one all-African socialist movement, with the eventual goal of one African state. The African People's Socialist Party considers the ASI to be its most important project. The African People's Socialist Party envisions the ASI to be a more revolutionary organization than the general Pan-African movement. Self-defense (self-defence primarily in Commonwealth English) is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and well-being of oneself from harm. Police brutality is the repression by personnel affiliated with law enforcement when dealing with suspects and civilians. The term is also applied to abuses by "corrections" personnel in municipal, state, and federal prison camps, including military prisons. The term ''police brutality'' is usually applied in the context of causing physical harm to a person. It may also involve psychological harm through the use of intimidation tactics that often violate human rights. From the 18th-20th centuries, those who engaged in police brutality have acted with the implicit approval of the local legal system, such as during the Civil Rights Movement era. In the contemporary era, individuals who engage in police brutality may do so with the tacit approval of their superiors or they may be rogue officers.
