Africa's Next Top Model
''Africa's Next Top Model'' is a reality television show and spin-off to ''America's Next Top Model''. It follows the format of the original version, and documents a competition in which a number of aspiring models compete for the title of ''Africa's Next Top Model'' and a chance to start a career in the modeling industry. The show is hosted by model Oluchi Onweagba, and features contestants from countries in Africa. The first season ("cycle") aired on Africa Magic from November 2013 to January 2014. The winner of the competition was 20-year-old Aamito Lagum, who represented Uganda. Controversy ''West Africa's Next Top Model'' In 2008, a similar adaptation titled ''West Africa's Next Top Model'' was planned and would have featured contestants originating from the West African countries of Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Liberia and Nigeria. Tyra Lynne Banks (born December 4, 1973), also known as BanX, is an American television personality, model, producer, writer, and actress. Born in Inglewood, California, she began her career as a model at the age of 15, and was the first African-American woman to be featured on the covers of '' GQ'' and the ''Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue'', on which she appeared three times. ''Africa's Next Top Model, cycle 1'' is the first installment of a reality television show in which a number of women compete for the title of ''Africa's Next Top Model'' along with the chance to begin their career in the modeling industry. The show features aspiring models from the entire African continent. The prize package for this cycle included a 1-year modeling contract with New York-based modelling agency DNA Model Management, a product endorsement deal with '' P&G'', a 1-year contract as an ambassador for South African Tourism, SNAPP, Etisalat, and Verve, and a cash prize of 50,000 USD. The winner of the competition was 21-year-old Aamito Lagum, representing the nation of Uganda.
