Aerocon Dash 1.6 Wingship
The Aerocon Dash-1.6 wingship was a proposed American ground-effect vehicle intended to carry large cargos and thousands of passengers over long distances at near-aircraft speeds. The vehicle was claimed to be able to carry a combination of of cargo and 2,000 passengers a distance of at speeds close to those of commercial airliners. The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) evaluated the Aerocon design, along with submissions from several other manufacturers, as part of a preliminary study of the concept during the 1990s to determine whether a billion-dollar program was viable, to develop a wingship for military uses. Aero Comercial Oriente Norte Ltda., doing business as Aerocon, was a Bolivian airline. Its national office was in Hangar 93 in El Trompillo Airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. It started its operations in 2005. In 2006, the airline transferred its operational base to Trinidad. It was also called the Airline of Beni Department. It operated from Trinidad to Cobija, Cochabamba, Guayaramerín, La Paz, Riberalta, Santa Cruz, Yacuiba, Sucre, and Tarija but in 2015 it stopped operating due to finance problems and resulting severe security issues. A ground-effect vehicle (GEV), also called a wing-in-ground-effect (WIG), ground-effect craft, wingship, flarecraft or ekranoplan (russian: экранопла́н – "screenglider"), is a vehicle that is able to move over the surface by gaining support from the reactions of the air against the surface of the earth or water. Typically, it is designed to glide over a level surface (usually over the sea) by making use of ground effect, the aerodynamic interaction between the moving wing and the surface below. Some models can operate over any flat area such as frozen lakes or flat plains similar to a hovercraft. Design A ground-effect vehicle needs some forward velocity to produce lift dynamically, and the principal benefit of operating a wing in ground effect is to reduce its lift-dependent drag. Dive is a Belgian electronic dance music project formed in 1990 by Dirk Ivens (Absolute Body Control, Klinik, Blok 57, Sonar). Dive's "audio trademark" is the experimental sound of abused drum machines, pulsating through crackling distortion on almost every song. History Dirk Ivens began Dive as a solo project in 1990 during the waning days of his participation in the band Klinik. With Dive, Dirk sought to have complete control over his creative process as a change from his many previous years working with bands. The Beriev Be-2500 Neptun ( Russian: Бериев Бе-2500 Нептун) is a super heavy amphibious transport aircraft that, as of 2007, was in design and development by Russian design firm Beriev. The maximum takeoff weight is estimated at 2500 tons, hence its name. Design and development It has been designed to serve both as a conventional jet aircraft, flying at high altitudes transcontinentally, as well as a craft using the ground-effect at intercontinental routes across the sea. It is planned to fly via intercontinental routes, taking off from normal seaports without needing special infrastructure. The Boeing Pelican ULTRA (Ultra Large Transport Aircraft) was a proposed ground effect vehicle, ground effect fixed-wing aircraft under study by Boeing Phantom Works. Development The Boeing Pelican ULTRA is intended as a Strategic airlift, large-capacity transport craft initially for military use, with possible subsequent availability as a commercial cargo aircraft, freighter serving the world's largest cargo centers.
