Aemilia Gens
The gens Aemilia, originally written Aimilia, was one of the greatest patrician families at ancient Rome. The gens was of great antiquity, and claimed descent from Numa Pompilius, the second King of Rome. Its members held the highest offices of the state, from the early decades of the Republic to imperial times.''Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology'', vol. I, p. 30 ("Aemilia Gens"). The Aemilii were almost certainly one of the ''gentes maiores'', the most important of the patrician families. Aemilius Irving
Sir Æmilius Irving (February 4, 1823 – November 27, 1913) was a Canadians, Canadian lawyer and politician. Born in Leamington Spa, Leamington, England, son of The Hon. Jacob Æmilius Irving and Catherine, daughter of Jeremiah Homfray, Sir Jere Homfray, of Llandaff House. He was educated at Upper Canada College, became a barrister in 1849, and was created a Queen's Counsel in 1863. In 1851, he married Augusta Gugy, the daughter of Bartholomew Gugy, Bartholomew Conrad Augustus Gugy. He was a Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal Member of the House of Commons of Canada for Hamilton (electoral district), Hamilton in the 3rd Canadian Parliament. Irving served as clerk of the peace for Waterloo County, Ontario, Waterloo County and was List of Treasurers of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Treasurer of the Law Society of Upper Canada from 1893 to 1913. Aemilius Jarvis
Edward Aemilius Jarvis (April 25, 1860 – December 19, 1940) was a Canadian financier, equestrian, and sailor. Life and career A member of a Toronto family of Loyalist descent, Jarvis apprenticed as a banker, and eventually became president of the Trader's Bank of Canada. Jarvis founded the Steel Company of Canada. He built Toronto's iconic King Edward Hotel and created the British Columbia Salmon Canning Industry. Jarvis also formed Æmilius Jarvis & Co., earning the friendship and respect of such men as Lord Minto (Governor General of Canada), J.P. Morgan, Sir Thomas Lipton, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Henry Pellatt, Edward Roper Curzon Clarkson and world-champion rower Ned Hanlan. Gonzalo Aemilius (born 18 September 1979 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan Roman Catholic cleric who has served as a personal secretary to Pope Francis since 2020. Biography Gonzalo Aemilius was born in Montevideo on 18 September 1979. His parents were not practicing Christians and one of his grandmothers was Jewish. He grew up in a middle-class family and attended a Catholic school in Montevideo. He was member of the Scout Movement in the Grupo Scout Juan de Córdoba. Paulus Aemilius (ca. 1510 – 9 June 1575)Alemannia Judaica/ref> was a Hebrew bibliographer, publisher, and teacher. He was born in Rödelsee, Germany. He embraced Christianity in Rome. He was employed in copying Hebrew manuscripts, and for this purpose visited the libraries of Paris, Louvain, and Rome. In 1544 he edited and printed at Augsburg a Judaeo-German translation of the ''Pentateuch'' and the ''Haftarot'', dedicating it to Johann Albrecht Widmannstetter, custodian of the Hebrew department of the Munich Library. Grünbaum (''Jüdisch-Deutsche Chrestomathie,'' p. 14) thinks that Æmilius copied from the Cremona edition of 1540. The translation is, on the whole, the same which was used in 1901 in Poland.
