''Adventures of a Dentist'' (russian: Похождения зубного врача, Pokhozhdyeniya zubnovo vracha) is a 1965 Soviet dark comedy/drama feature film directed by Elem Klimov on Mosfilm. It is currently available to view through the Criterion Channel, and is occasionally screened at film festivals. Plot A dentist is derided (and eventually has his life ruined) by his colleagues for his natural talent of painlessly pulling out teeth. Elem Klimov
Elem Germanovich Klimov (russian: link=no, Элем Германович Климов; 9 July 1933 – 26 October 2003) was a Soviet and Russian filmmaker. He studied at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, and was married to film director Larisa Shepitko. Klimov is best known for his final film, 1985's ''Come and See'' (''Иди и смотри''), which follows a teenage boy in German-occupied Byelorussia during the Great Patriotic War and is often considered one of the greatest films ever made. His work also notably includes black comedies, children's movies, and period dramas. Personal life Elem Klimov was born in Stalingrad into a Russian family, to German Stepanovich Klimov, an investigator who worked at the Central Control Commission of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and Kaleria Georgievna Klimova. Igor Vladimirovich Kvasha (russian: Игорь Владимирович Кваша; 4 February 1933 — 30 August 2012) was a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor. He was a leading actor of Sovremennik Theater. Igor Kvasha was one of the Sovremennik founders along with Galina Volchek, Oleg Yefremov, Yevgeniy Yevstigneyev and Oleg Tabakov. He was honored with People's Artist of Russia in 1978. Biography Igor Kvasha was born in Moscow, the son of scientist Vladimir Ilich Kvasha, of the faculty of Mendeleev Russian University of Chemistry and Technology. Kvasha graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School, where he was taught by Aleksander Karev. After graduation, he joined the Moscow Art Theater troupe and performed there for two years (1955-1957).
