Advance Australia Foundation
The Advance Australia Foundation (AAF) was established in 1980. The AAF recognised "individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and enhancement of Australia, the Australian people and the Australian way of life". It was wound up in the mid-1990s. Award recipients Awards given by the AAF included the Advance Australia Award and the Special Merit Advance Australia Award. Joseph Dolce (born October 13, 1947) (, originally ) is an American-Italian singer/songwriter, poet and essayist. Dolce achieved international recognition with his multi-million-selling song, "Shaddap You Face", released worldwide under the name of his one-man show, Joe Dolce Music Theatre, in 1980–1981. Order Of Australia
The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Before the establishment of the order, Australian citizens received British honours. The Monarch of Australia is sovereign head of the order, while the Governor-General of Australia is the principal companion/dame/knight (as relevant at the time) and chancellor of the order. The governor-general's official secretary, Paul Singer (appointed August 2018), is secretary of the order. The Australian Made, Australian Grown trade mark logo signifies products whose ingredients or production mostly originate from Australia. The triangular green-and-gold logo, featuring a kangaroo, was introduced in 1986. The Australian Made, Australian Grown logo is administered by Australian Made Campaign Limited (AMCL). History In the 1930s a group of businesses gathered up and created a media campaign to publicise Australian made products. Charles Malpas
Charles Henry Malpas (28 April 1899 Р1 January 1982) was an Australian inventor and businessman. Malpas was born at Leicester in England to toolmaker Charles Edward Malpas and Florence, ''n̩e'' Merry. He served in the Royal Air Force from April 1918 to February 1919. He married clerk Elsie Moore at Sutton Coldfield on 31 July 1920, and the couple moved to Melbourne in March 1921. After the death of a daughter in 1924, Elsie returned to England and the two were divorced in 1935. Malpas remarried Betty Meryl Cutler at Geelong on 14 September 1935. He had founded an iron foundry and engineering workshop in 1933 which became known as Victorian Diemoulders Pty Ltd, and he served on Geelong City Council from 1944 to 1947 and from 1949 to 1956. Prue Acton, OBE (born 26 April 1943) is an Australian fashion designer, often referred to as "Australia's golden girl of fashion" during the 1960s. Early life Prudence Leigh Acton was born in Benalla, Victoria and educated at Firbank Anglican Girls' Grammar School in Melbourne. Between 1958 and 1962 she completed a Diploma of Art majoring in Printed Textiles at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She married Michael Charles Treloar in 1966. Shaddap You Face
"Shaddap You Face" is a novelty song written and performed by Joe Dolce (released under the name Joe Dolce Music Theatre) about a rebellious Italian boy. Released in late 1980, it set a number of sales and longevity records. It was released by Mike Brady's record label Full Moon Records. By February 1981, the single had sold over 290,000 units in Australia, surpassing Brady's own "Up There Cazaly" to become Australia's best-selling single ever. Writing Dolce, who is Italian-American, said he wrote "Shaddap You Face" based on memories of his childhood, when his family members would speak in broken English. Sales "Shaddap You Face" went to number one for eight weeks on the Australia Kent Music Report in 1980. It reached number one on the UK Singles Chart on 21 February 1981 and stayed there for three weeks until 8 March 1981, keeping Ultravox's single "Vienna" out of the top spot throughout.
