Adrian Marren
Adrian Marren is a Gaelic footballer from Ireland. Marren plays for the Curry club and previously for the Sligo county team. Marren was part of the Sligo team that won the Connacht title in 2007. He was also man-of-the-match in a 2012 Connacht Senior Football Championship victory over Galway in which he scored 2–6. In October 2020, Marren announced his retirement from inter-county football after 16 years. The Sligo county football team ( ) represents Sligo in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Sligo GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). ''The Sligo Champion'' is a weekly regional newspaper published every Tuesday in Sligo, Ireland. It was purchased by Independent News & Media (INM) in 2008. Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). 2007 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 2007 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, was a Gaelic football competition in Ireland, and was the most significant and prestigious competition in the sport held that year. It began on 13 May 2007, with the final game took place for Sunday, 16 September. Kerry were the defending champions, as well as the most successful team in the competition. Donegal entered the Championship as the unbeaten National League champions, as well as having been runners-up to Tyrone in the 2007 Dr. McKenna Cup. The draw for the provincial championships took place on 4 November 2006. Kerry retained their championship, the first team to do so since Cork won back-to-back titles in 1989 and 1990. 2012 Connacht Senior Football Championship
The 2012 Connacht Senior Football Championship was that year's installment of the annual Connacht Senior Football Championship held under the auspices of the Connacht GAA. It was won by Mayo who defeated Sligo in the final. This was Mayo's 43rd Connacht senior title. Mayo were drawn at home with London or Leitrim in their semi-final, while Sligo's route was the harder—playing away to New York and overcoming Galway in their semi-final, only to fall at the final hurdle once again. The winning Mayo team received the J. J. Nestor Cup, and automatically advanced to the quarter-final stage of the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
