Adrian Lee
Adrian Lee (born 9 September 1957, London, England) is an English musician, known especially for his brass instrumentation work with several well-known acts of the 1980s. Career Lee was first signed to Phonogram Records in the late 1970s as guitarist with the band, Red Hot. They released one single, "L-L-Lazy Days" (1976), which was produced by Mutt Lange. Lee's first big engagement led him to play guitar and keyboards on Cliff Richard's late 1970s tours, and his 1979 album, '' Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile''. In 1980, Lee became a member of the British goth rock band, Toyah, co-writing songs including the hit single, "Thunder in the Mountains", and he stayed with them until 1982. The same year he released his only solo album, called ''The Magician''. He continued to write for Toyah Willcox, and appeared on her 1985 album, ''Minx'', for which he and Wilcox wrote "Soldier of Fortune, Terrorist of Love". ''Minx'' was produced by Christopher Neil. ''Minx'' is a 1985 album by the British singer Toyah Willcox, released by Portrait Records. It was her first album as a solo artist and spawned the moderate hit "Don't Fall in Love (I Said)". Background Although still credited simply as "Toyah" (which was the name of Toyah (band), the band she fronted up until 1984), the album was technically the start of Willcox's career as a solo artist, and her first LP for a major label, Portrait Records (part of the CBS Records International, CBS group) after she left the independent label Safari Records, Safari which had released all of her music up until then. The Ink Thief
''The Ink Thief'' is a 1994 British children's TV show, shown on the ITV channel during their CITV segment. It starred Richard O'Brien and Toyah Willcox. The series was produced by Animus Entertainment for Tyne Tees Television. Plot summary The titular antagonist known only as the Ink Thief (O'Brien) steals the power of imagination by sucking the "ink" out of books and drawings. At the start of the show, brother and sister Jim and Sam stumble upon his gothic world filled with Oobs, Bumps, and other imaginary creatures. During the course of the show, the children's friendship is tested as Jim gets seduced by the Ink Thief, whereas Sam fights to stop him. ''Mirror Mirror'' is the eleventh and final album by British rock band 10cc released in 1995, re-titled ''I'm Not in Love'' for the 1996 re-release. The album was their first not to be released on a major UK label, this time working with Japanese label Avex following the poor performance of their previous album '' ...Meanwhile'' in UK and its relative success in Japan. Background and recording ''Mirror Mirror'' again was recorded with just two of 10cc's core band members, Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart, however the album was more a combination of two solo albums than a conventional 10cc production. Gouldman and Stewart played and produced together only one new track – an acoustic reworking of their 1975 hit, " I'm Not in Love", one of only three songs on the album that bore a Stewart-Gouldman joint songwriting credit. 10cc are an English rock band formed in Stockport in 1972. The group initially consisted of four musicians – Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme – who had written and recorded together since 1968. The group featured two songwriting teams. Stewart and Gouldman were predominantly pop songwriters, who created most of the band's accessible songs. Godley and Creme were the predominantly experimental half of 10cc, featuring art and cinematically inspired writing. Every member of 10cc was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer and producer. Most of the band's records were recorded at their own Strawberry Studios (North) in Stockport and Strawberry Studios (South) in Dorking, with most of those engineered by Stewart. Joan Anita Barbara Armatrading, (, born 9 December 1950) is a Kittitian-English singer-songwriter and guitarist. A three-time Grammy Award nominee, Armatrading has also been nominated twice for BRIT Awards as Best Female Artist. She received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996. In a recording career spanning nearly 50 years, Armatrading has released 20 studio albums, as well as several live albums and compilations. ''Deep'' is the third studio album from Belfast band Silent Running, released by Atlantic in 1989. Background ''Deep'' was the band's second album for Atlantic Records, following their 1987 album '' Walk on Fire''. With the release of ''Deep'', the band toured extensively but disbanded shortly after, citing a lack of record company support. Both "Deep in the Heart of Nowhere" and "Local Hero" were released as promotional CD singles in the US. Recording The first four tracks of the album were produced by the band themselves with Frankie LaRocka and Peter Denenberg, who both engineered the album. The rest of the tracks were produced by John Eden, whilst LaRocka and Deneberg remixed the tracks produced by Eden. The album was LaRocka's first attempt at production work, where he also played drums on part of the album. Silent Running (band)
Silent Running are a Northern Ireland, Northern Irish rock music, rock band, who emerged from the Belfast punk rock, punk scene and were originally called The Setz, before changing musical direction in 1982. The original band members were Richard Collett (bass, born 31 March 1960), Peter Gamble (vocals, born 24 November 1960), Tony Scott (guitars) and Ian Gault (drums). Prior to signing to EMI, the band recruited George Beavis on keyboards. The current line up has Gary Kirby on drums and Paul Rocks on keyboards. Space Monkey (band)
Space Monkey was a British pop group from the mid-1980s, led by the singer–songwriter guitarist Paul Goodchild. The group's sole album was 1985's ''On the Beam'', issued in the UK by Innervision Records and in the US by MCA. A previous charting single release, "Can't Stop Running", was issued in 1983 on Innervision Records. It peaked at number 53 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1983. History Space Monkey was not a "group" per se; Goodchild was the only person to appear on every one of ''On the Beam''s tracks. Various session musicians were used, including Wham!'s backup band and members of Bow Wow Wow.
