Adrian Burns
Adrian Burns (born 5 August 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon Football Club, Essendon and St Kilda Football Club, St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL). Burns came to Essendon from Dromana, as the 51st selection of the 1988 VFL Draft. He was a member of the Essendon side which won the 1990 Foster's Cup, kicking two goals in the grand final. He made seven regular season appearances for Essendon that year and also participated in their semi final loss to Collingwood Football Club, Collingwood. His collision with Alan R. Richardson, Alan Richardson in that game resulting in the Collingwood player breaking his collarbone, which would cost him a spot in their premiership team. Having not played a single senior game in the 1992 and 1993 seasons, Burns made his way to St Kilda in the 1993 AFL Draft, 1994 Pre-Season Draft, but would make only four appearances. The 1988 VFL draft, held on the 9th of November 1988, was the third annual national draft held by the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). It consisted of a pre-season draft and a national draft. In 1988 there were 112 picks to be drafted between 14 teams in the national draft. Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale, Victoria, Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game.
