Adoniran Barbosa
Adoniran Barbosa, artistic name of João Rubinato (6 August 1910 – 23 November 1982), was a noted Brazilian São Paulo style samba singer and composer. Biography Early years João Rubinato was the seventh child of Francesco (Fernando) Rubinato and Emma Ricchini, Italian immigrants from Cavarzere (province of Venice). His parents had settled in Valinhos, a rural town in the state of São Paulo, about 70 km from the city of São Paulo. In 2010, two bridges were named after Rubinato: one located in Valinhos, Brazil, where the singer was born, and another in Cavarzere, Italy, where his parents came from. He is said to have been a rather reluctant student, and started working at an early age (which required falsifying his birth date). His first job was a sweeper boy and general helper at a railway company in the nearby town of Jundiaí. Valinhos
Valinhos () is a municipality (''município'') in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is the birthplace of Adoniran Barbosa. Valinhos is famous for its purple fig, the theme of its annual Fig Fest. It is part of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. The population is 131,210 () in an area of . Its elevation is . Its name means 'little valleys' in Portuguese. History The city was founded on 2 December 1732 by Alexandre Simões Vieira. A passage between the villages of São Paulo and Jundiaí had been opened. The main economic foundation of the town in the 19th century was the production of coffee, figs and grapes. Later on, a railway was created to transport the products to the Port of Santos. Osvaldo Moles
Osvaldo Moles (14 March 1913 – 14 May 1967) was a Brazilian journalist, and radio announcer. He made important contributions the Brazilian radio, journalism, literature, and cinema. Biography Born in Santos in 1913, Moles soon moved with his parents to São Paulo. His ancestors were Italian immigrants. He had a great relationship with the family of his wife, Anita Ramos. He met the modernists and began his journalistic career at the ''Diário Nacional''. Influenced by the ethnographic travels of Mário de Andrade, he traveled through the northeast and lived in Salvador, Bahia. Back in São Paulo, he wrote for ''Correio Paulistano''.
