Adolf Piwarski (1817–1870) was a Polish miniaturist painter and graphic artist. His father, Jan Feliks Piwarski (1794–1859), was also a famous Polish painter and graphic designer, founder of the print room at Warsaw University. Jan Feliks Piwarski
Jan Feliks Piwarski – (20 November 1794, Puławy – 17 December 1859, Warsaw) was a Polish painter, curator, writer and graphic artist; one of the earliest lithographers in Poland. Biography He came from a family of craftsmen and studied painting with Józef Richter (1780-1837). In 1816, he moved to Warsaw, where he took employment as a clerk for the "Komisji Sprawiedliwości" (Justice Committee).Brief biography by Ewa Micke-Broniarek @ Culture.pl. Two years later, he was appointed Curator of the print collection at the University of Warsaw and, shortly after, became Secretary of the University Library. Europeana is a web portal created by the European Union containing digitised cultural heritage collections of more than 3,000 institutions across Europe. It includes records of over 50 million cultural and scientific artefacts, brought together on a single platform and presented in a variety of ways relevant to modern users. The prototype for Europeana was the European Digital Library Network (EDLnet), launched in 2008. The Europeana Foundation is the governing body of the service, and is incorporated under Dutch law as Stichting Europeana. History Europeana had its beginnings after a letter was jointly sent in April 2005 by Jacques Chirac, President of France, and the premiers of Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and Hungary to the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso.
