Admirals All (play)
''Admirals All'' is a 1934 adventure comedy play by the British writers Ian Hay and Stephen King-Hall about a film star who becomes mixed up with the Royal Navy and Chinese pirates. It premiered at the Kings Theatre, Southsea in the naval town of Portsmouth before transferring to the West End. It ran for 192 performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre and then the Cambridge Theatre between 6 August 1934 and 19 January 1935. It marked the West End debut of Hollywood film actress Laura La Plante, then in London making films for Warner Brothers at Teddington Studios. The cast also included Diana Beaumont, Jack Hobbs, Frederick Burtwell, Geoffrey Sumner and Aubrey Mather. Ian Hay
Major General John Hay Beith, Order of the British Empire, CBE Military Cross, MC (17 April 1876 – 22 September 1952), was a British schoolmaster and soldier, but is best remembered as a novelist, playwright, essayist, and historian who wrote under the pen name Ian Hay. After reading Classics at University of Cambridge, Cambridge University, Beith became a schoolmaster. In 1907 his novel ''Pip (novel), Pip'' was published; its success and that of several more novels enabled him to give up teaching in 1912 to be a full-time writer. During the First World War, Beith served as an officer in the army in France. His good-humoured account of army life, ''The First Hundred Thousand'', published in 1915, was a best-seller. On the strength of this, he was sent to work in the information section of the British War Mission in Washington, D.C. Anthony Bushell
Anthony Arnatt Bushell (19 May 1904 – 2 April 1997) was an English film actor and director who appeared in more than 50 films between 1929 and 1961. He played Colonel Breen in the BBC serial ''Quatermass and the Pit'' (1958–59), and also appeared in and directed various British TV series such as ''Danger Man''. Early life Bushell was born in Westerham, Kent and was educated at Magdalen College School, and then Hertford College, Oxford, where he was the stroke on the college rowing eight, and belonged to the Hypocrites' Club. After Oxford, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and got his start on stage from Sir Gerald du Maurier, making his theatrical debut in Sardou's ''Diplomacy'' at the Adelphi Theatre in 1924. Gordon Harker
William Gordon Harker (7 August 1885 – 2 March 1967) was an English stage and film actor. Harker was one of the sons of Sarah Elizabeth Harker, née Hall, (1856–1927), and Joseph Harker (1855–1927), a much admired set painter for the theatre for whom the ''Dracula'' character Jonathan Harker was named. Harker had a long career on the stage, from 1902 to the 1950s. In addition, he appeared in 68 films between 1921 and 1959, including three silent films directed by Alfred Hitchcock and in several scenes in ''Elstree Calling'' (1930), a revue film co-directed by Hitchcock. Winifred Elaine "Wynne" Gibson (July 3, 1898 – May 15, 1987) was an American actress of the 1930s. Early years Gibson was born in New York City, the daughter of Frank W. Gibson and Elaine Coffin Gibson. Her father was an efficiency expert, and her mother was an authorized Christian Science healer. She attended Wadleigh High School for Girls in New York City. At one point during her youth, she ran away from home with a touring play troupe, acting with the group in three cities before her father found her. Stage Gibson was a member of Frederick Santley's Melody Maids and Ray Raymond's Melody Charmers. She toured in the ''Ritz Girls'' show, in which she and Billie Vernon performed a sister act. Victor Hanbury
W. Victor Hanbury (1897 – 14 December 1954) was a British film director and producer. Entering the film industry in 1919 after service in the First World War, he became a director and producer in the early 1930s. His last film as a director was ''Hotel Reserve'' (which he also co-produced) in 1944. He continued to produce into the 1950s. He was initially credit as both producer and director of ''The Sleeping Tiger'', but the film was actually directed by Joseph Losey. He was born in and died in London, England. Aubrey Mather (17 December 1885 – 16 January 1958) was an English character actor. Career Mather was born in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, and began his career on the stage in 1905. He debuted in London in '' Brewster's Millions'' in 1909 and on Broadway ten years later in ''Luck of the Navy''. He eventually branched out to films, starting with '' Young Woodley'' in 1930. Geoffrey Sumner
Geoffrey Sumner (20 November 1908, Ilfracombe, Devon – 29 September 1989, Alderney, Channel Islands) was a British actor. As well as appearing in a number of films, he was also a commentator for British Movietone News., His parents were Edmund and Kathleen Marion (Brook). He married Gwen Williams Roberts, and they had three daughters. In 1957 he played Major Upshot-Bagley in the first series of '' The Army Game'' , broadcast by ITV Granada.
