Adickdid
Adickdid was an American all-female punk rock band, started in the early 1990s in Eugene, Oregon, United States, by Kaia Wilson, Nalini Cheriel, and Sara Shelton Bellum. They toured alongside other riot grrrl bands. Their first single "All American Girl" b/w "Columbus" was put out by Imp Records in 1993. One of their opening acts was Beck at the Jabberjaw in Los Angeles. They recorded the song "Hair" on the ''Stars Kill Rock'' compilation for Kill Rock Stars. They also recorded a song for Yoyo Records. Their album, ''Dismantle'', was put out on Imp and their own record label G Records in 1993. Members went on to form The Butchies and Team Dresch. Adickdid broke up in 1995. The Butchies
The Butchies were an all-female punk rock band from Durham, North Carolina, that existed from 1998 to 2005. They reunited from their hiatus to tour with Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls promoting Ray's new album in 2010. The frequent focus of their lyrical content concerned lesbian and queer themes. Made up of Team Dresch guitarist and frontwoman Kaia Wilson, bassist Alison Martlew, and drummer Melissa York, The Butchies has been referred to as "queercore crusaders". The band has been performing together since the recording of their first album, ''Are We Not Femme?'' in 1998. Since then, the trio has recorded three subsequent albums, '' Population: 1975'' in 1999, '' 3'' in 2001, and ''Make Yr Life'' in 2004. They have also appeared on a number of compilations of note, including ''Being Out Rocks'', produced by the Human Rights Campaign (Centaur Productions, 2002), and '' Fields And Streams'' (Kill Rock Stars, 2002). Kaia Wilson
Kaia Lynn Wilson (born 1974) is an American musician from Portland, Oregon, best known as a founding member of both Team Dresch, a revered 1990s queercore punk band, and The Butchies, a pop-rock spin-off from her solo work. In addition to singing, songwriting and guitar, Wilson co-established and operated Mr. Lady Records from 1996 to 2004. Career Musician Wilson, born in 1974, was raised in the small town of Jasper, Oregon. As a teenager, Wilson was a member of the band Adickdid, which was distributed by several labels including Yoyo Records and Kill Rock Stars. From there, she went on to Team Dresch, in which she shared singing and songwriting duties with Jody Bleyle. Shortly after Team Dresch released their second album, ''Captain My Captain'', in 1996, Wilson left the group and released a solo acoustic album entitled ''Kaia''. Nalini Cheriel
Nalini "Deedee" Cheriel is a visual artist, musician and filmmaker who lives in Los Angeles, California. Career From the age of 19, Cheriel started out creating record covers and T-shirts for the Oregon music scene. She was a member of the band Adickdid, which was distributed by several labels including Yoyo Records and Kill Rock Stars. She also played in the bands Juned, Teen Angels, and The Hindi Guns. In 2001, Cheriel, along with friends Kurt Voss and Zoe Poledouris, created the film ''Down and Out With the Dolls.'' This film is loosely based on Cheriel's life as a musician and the stories she would tell Voss about this time of her life. After this film was released, Cheriel moved to Los Angeles, California where she lives still. After moving to Los Angeles, Cheriel began work as a visual artist. Riot grrrl is an underground feminist punk movement that began during the early 1990s within the United States in Olympia, Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest and has expanded to at least 26 other countries. Riot grrrl is a subcultural movement that combines feminism, punk music, and politics. It is often associated with third-wave feminism, which is sometimes seen as having grown out of the riot grrrl movement and has recently been seen in fourth-wave feminist punk music that rose in the 2010s. Team Dresch
Team Dresch is an American punk rock band originally formed in 1993 in Olympia, Washington. The band made a significant impression on the DIY punk movement queercore, which gave voice through zines and music to the passions and concerns of LGBT people in the punk scene. History In 1993, Donna Dresch formed Team Dresch with herself playing guitar and bass, Jody Bleyle on guitar and vocals, Kaia Wilson on guitar and vocals, and Marcéo Martinez on drums. Dresch and Bleyle met in the early 1990s, and together decided they wanted to form “an all-dyke band." Dresch has roots in the queercore movement, contributing to the zines '' J.D.s'' and ''Outpunk'', as well as writing her own, called ''Chainsaw''.
