Adh-Dhariyat
Adh-Dhariyat ( ar, الذاريات, ; The Winnowing Winds) is the 51st chapter (''surah'') of the Qur'an with 60 verses (''ayat''). It mentions Abraham in Islam, Abraham, Noah in Islam, Noah, and the day of judgment, and reiterates the essential Quranic message. Structure According to Angelika Neuwirth's literary analysis, as related through Carl Ernst, sura 51, like many early Meccan suras, consists of a tripartite structure: I, 1– 23; II, 24– 46; III, 47– 60. At-Tur
At-Tur ( ar, الطور, ; The Mount) is the 52nd chapter (''sūrah'') of the Quran with 49 verses ('' ayat''). The surah opens with the oath of the Allah swearing by the Mount, which some believe is Mount Sinai, where the Tawrat was revealed to Musa. The chapter takes its name from "the mount" (''ṭūr'') mentioned in verse 1. The surah addresses many of the arguments put to the Prophet by the disbelievers of Mecca (verse 29 ff.). The bliss that will be enjoyed by the believers is contrasted to the torments of Hell, and the Prophet is urged to bide his time, to continue to deliver his message, and to wait with confidence for God's judgement. Qaf ( ar, ق, the letter ''qāf''), is the 50th chapter (''sūrah'') of the Qur'an with 45 verses ('' āyāt''). The name is taken from the single discrete Quranic " mysterious letter" qāf that opens the chapter. It is the beginning of the ''Hizb al-Mufassal'', the seventh and the last portion (''manzil''). Oaths In Islam
Traditionally an oath (from Anglo-Saxon ', also called plight) is either a statement of fact or a promise taken by a sacrality as a sign of verity. A common legal substitute for those who conscientiously object to making sacred oaths is to give an affirmation instead. Nowadays, even when there is no notion of sanctity involved, certain promises said out loud in ceremonial or juridical purpose are referred to as oaths. George Sale (1697–1736) was a British Orientalist scholar and practising solicitor, best known for his 1734 translation of the Quran into English. In 1748, after having read Sale's translation, Voltaire wrote his own essay "De l'Alcoran et de Mahomet" ("On the Quran and on Mohammed"). Sale was also author of ''The General Dictionary'', in ten volumes, folio. Biography Born in Canterbury, Kent, he was educated at the King's School, Canterbury, and in 1720 became a student of the Inner Temple. It is known that he trained as a solicitor in his early years but took time off from his legal pursuits, returning at need to his profession. Sale was an early member of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. Sale became seriously ill with fever for eight days before his death. The Thamud ( ar, ثَمُوْد, translit=Ṯamūd) were an ancient Arabian tribe or tribal confederation that occupied the northwestern Arabian peninsula between the late-eighth century BCE, when they are attested in Assyrian sources, and the fifth century CE, when they served as Roman auxiliaries. The Kingdom of Thamud was the first existing kingdom on the Arabian peninsula, according to Assyrian and Roman sources. Arabian tradition holds that the Thamud kingdom was destroyed by God.
