Adelmorn Sherman
Adelmorn Sherman (January 30, 1820 – January 26, 1875) was an American farmer and politician. Born in Berne, New York, Sherman moved to Wisconsin Territory in 1844 and settled in Rock County, Wisconsin. He lived in La Prairie, Wisconsin. Sherman was a farmer. He served as the town superintendent of public schools and as the town board chairman. From 1869 to 1871, Sherman served in the Wisconsin State Assembly The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Berne, New York
Berne is a town in Albany County, New York, United States. The population was 2,689 at the 2020 census. The town is at the western border of Albany County. History The town of Berne was originally spelled "Bern", until the Berne Post Office was established in 1825. It was created in 1795 from part of the town of Rensselaerville. In 1822 the northern half of Berne was spun off to form the new town of Knox. The earliest settlers were Palatine German refugees. Settlement began sometime before 1750. At that time, it was called Beaver Dam (also spelled Beaverdam). The settlers were actually squatters, since in the 18th and most of the 19th centuries, Berne was part of the Rensselaerswyck estate. The head of the Van Rensselaer family was the patroon who owned all the land on which the tenants in the Hudson Valley lived, and used feudal leases to maintain control of the region. Wisconsin Territory
The Territory of Wisconsin was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from July 3, 1836, until May 29, 1848, when an eastern portion of the territory was admitted to the Union as the State of Wisconsin. Belmont was initially chosen as the capital of the territory. In 1837, the territorial legislature met in Burlington, just north of the Skunk River on the Mississippi, which became part of the Iowa Territory in 1838. In that year, 1838, the territorial capital of Wisconsin was moved to Madison. The Town of La Prairie is a town in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 784 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated community of Tiffany is located partially in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 34.6 square miles (89.7 km2), all of it land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 929 people, 342 households, and 266 families residing in the town. The population density was 26.8 people per square mile (10.4/km2). Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election.
