Adelgunde Vogt
Adelgunde Vogt (17 July 1811 – 10 June 1892) was a Danish sculptor.Adelgunde Vogt Dansk Kvindebiografisk Leksikon She was the first female sculptor in Denmark. She is most known for her sculptures of animals in ivory and bronze, but she also made portrait busts. Biography Emilie Adelgunde Vogt was the daughter of Michael Johan Christian Herbst (1775–1830) and Michelle Elisabeth Christiance Charlotte Stibolt (1788–1861). Her father was a Commissioner General and the director of the military garment factory. She spent her youth in Sorø and Slagelse. After the death of her father, the family moved to Copenhagen in 1837. She first received instruction in modeling from sculptor student Johan Peter Heldt. Funen's Art Museum (Danish: ''Fyns Kunstmuseum''), formerly The Museum of Funen's Abbey and Museum Civitatis Othiniensis, founded in 1885, is an art museum in Odense, Denmark. Funen's Art Museum operated as a part of the Odense City Museums (''Odense Bys Museer''). History Fyns Kunstmuseum is housed in a stately neo-classical building built in 1883–84 with Emil Schwanenflügel (1847-1921) as supervising architect. The building has a characteristic temple gable and a decorated frieze with scenes from Denmark's history and Norse mythology. The museum was founded as a mini version of Nationalgalleriets (later the Statens Museum for Kunst) and holds a wide range of works by important Danish artists. Gammel Estrup Manor (''Danish: Gammel Estrup'') is a red-brick Renaissance manor house some east of Randers in Jutland, Denmark. The manor as we know it today can be traced back to 1490. But excavations have revealed evidence of earlier constructions also mentioned in texts under the name ''Essendrup'' dating back to 1340. History The construction of Gammel Estrup was started around 1490 by nobleman Lave Eskesen Brock (died 1503) who built a moated fortress on the site. Vemmetofte Convent ( da, Vemmetofte Adelige Jomfrukloster, Vemmetofte Kloster) is a former manor house in Faxe Municipality south of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was turned into a convent by Princess Sophia Hedwig of Denmark in 1735. Since 1975 it has provided housing available to the general public. History Early history The oldest known reference to Vemmetofte Manor dates back to 1320 when it was owned by Johannes Offesen, a brother-in-law of Stig Andersen Hvide who owned land both in Skåneland and on Zealand. Later it was owned by members of the aristocratic Brock family from 1464 to 1639. Assistens Cemetery ( da, Assistens Kirkegård) is the name of a number of cemeteries in Denmark. The common nominator is, as the first part of the name implies (Latin: ''assistens'' meaning assisting), an assisting cemetery for a town's churches. Already by the end of the 17th century, Danish authorities deemed that the conditions for inner-city cemeteries were becoming increasingly unacceptable. Not only was the space becoming limited but it was also deemed unhygienic to conduct burial in the inner-city. The solution was to erect shared cemeteries in the outskirt of a town, named Assisting Cemetery, primarily in larger towns. The first of these in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, was founded by royal resolution on May 26, 1757, and inaugurated November 6, 1760.
