Adelaide's Lament
"Adelaide's Lament" is a show tune from the Broadway musical ''Guys and Dolls'', written by Frank Loesser, which opened at the 46th Street Theatre on November 24, 1950. Show Tune
A show tune is a song originally written as part of the score of a work of musical theatre or musical film, especially if the piece in question has become a standard, more or less detached in most people's minds from the original context. Though show tunes vary in style, they do tend to share common characteristics—they usually fit the context of a story being told in the original musical, they are useful in enhancing and heightening choice moments. A particularly common form of show tune is the "I Want" song, which composer Stephen Schwartz noted as being particularly likely to have a lifespan outside the show that spawned it. Show tunes were a major venue for popular music before the rock and roll and television era; most of the hits of such songwriters as Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin came from their shows. Faith Prince (born August 6, 1957) is an American actress and singer, best known for her work on Broadway in musical theatre. ''The Broadway Album'' is the twenty-fourth studio album by American singer Barbra Streisand, released by Columbia Records on November 4, 1985. Consisting mainly of classic show tunes, the album marked a major shift in Streisand's career. She had spent ten years appearing in musicals and singing standards on her albums in the 1960s. Beginning with the album '' Stoney End'' in 1971 and ending with the album ''Emotion'' in 1984, Streisand sang mostly rock, pop, folk, and disco-oriented songs for Columbia records. Black is a racialized classification of people, usually a political and skin color-based category for specific populations with a mid to dark brown complexion.
