Adela De La Torre
Adela de la Torre is an American professor and university administrator. She has served as the ninth president of San Diego State University in San Diego, California since 2018. She is the first woman to serve in the role. Early life and education Adela de la Torre was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her grandparents were immigrants from Mexico, and her mother was a public school teacher. De la Torre attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she received bachelor's and master's degrees in the political economy of natural resources, as well as a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics in 1982. Career De la Torre was a professor at California State University, Long Beach and at the University of Arizona, where she was director of the Mexican-American Studies Center and also served as director of the Hispanic Center of Excellence for the University of Arizona College of Medicine. San Diego State University (SDSU) is a public research university in San Diego, California. Founded in 1897 as San Diego Normal School, it is the third-oldest university and southernmost in the 23-member California State University (CSU) system.
