Adam Woodard
Johnny Vomit & The Dry Heaves was an American high school garage band, that formed in mid-1980s in Corinth, Mississippi, United States, that featured future leaders of the Oblivians and Squirrel Nut Zippers, Jack Oblivian (né Yarber) and Jim Mathus. Under the names Johnny Goopa (Yarber on drums) and Bart Barf (Mathus on bass), they supported Johnny Vomit on two seven-inch records issued on Eric (né Friedl) Oblivian's Goner Records. Mathus would later appear (as a guest musician) alongside Yarber in his band South Filthy, which also featured Monsieur Jeffrey Evans, Texan-via-Chicago blues harmonicist, Walter Daniels, and Adam "Bomb" Woodard. Mathus appears on both their Sympathy for the Record Industry-released LPs. Jack Yarber (born March 15, 1967), also known by his stage name Jack Oblivian, is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist based in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a founding member of the garage bands The Compulsive Gamblers, and The Oblivians and currently fronts Jack O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers. Sympathy for the Record Industry (also known as Sympathy Records or Sympathy 4 the R.I.) is a mainly independent garage rock and punk label formed in 1988 by Long Gone John. The first Sympathy release was the Lazy Cowgirls' ''Radio Cowgirl'' LP, which Long Gone John said he released as a "favor to the band." Sympathy has a catalog of more than 750 releases and is based in Olympia, Washington. The label's name is a play on the song "Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones. Notable artists who started on Sympathy and went on to gain mainstream success include The White Stripes, Hole, and The Electrocutes (the first Donnas incarnation). Walter Daniels (born 1963) is an American musician and harmonica player noted for introducing the instrument into a number of styles of music not usually associated with the harmonica, including punk rock, and avant-garde free improvisation. History Walter Daniels was born in Chicago on June 30, 1963. Daniels became inspired to play the harmonica while in high school, when he witnessed a performance by Johnny Woods on a Public Television documentary about the blues. Oblivians
The Oblivians are an American garage punk trio that has existed since 1993. In the 1990s, their blues-infused brand of bravado, crudely recorded music made them one of the most popular and prominent bands within the underground garage rock scene. Formed in Memphis, Tennessee, the band consisted of three members—Greg Cartwright, Jack Yarber, and Eric Friedl—who alternated between instruments on stage and in the studio, each member serving as vocalist, guitarist, and drummer, in turn. The band recorded four LPs, as well as a number of EPs and singles, typically recording songs live in the studio. James H. Mathis Jr. (born August 1967), known as Jimbo Mathus, is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and member of the swing revival band Squirrel Nut Zippers. Early life and career He was born in Oxford, Mississippi to Jimmy Mathis and Jeanella (Malvezzi) Mathis. His genealogy is of Scottish and Italian origin. His early life was filled with music, as his father and relatives were instrumentalists and singers. He began joining the family musical circle at an early age and by age eight was played mandolin. By 15, Mathus had been taught the rudiments of guitar, piano and harmony singing.
