Adalat O Ekti Meye
''Adalat o Ekti Meye'' ( bn, আদালত ও একটি মেয়ে, en, The Law and a Lady) is a 1981 Bengali feature film directed by Tapan Sinha, starring Tanuja in the lead role. For its powerful and sensitive presentation of rape and its effects on the life of a woman, it won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. In later years, it has come to be regarded as a landmark feminist film. Tanuja considers it to be her best film. Synopsis The film is framed as a courtroom trial, and the story is narrated through flashbacks. Urmila (Tanuja), a young schoolteacher, goes on a holiday to the sea resort of Gopalpur. Her vacation turns into a nightmare as she is gang-raped on the beach by four rich young men. This is only the beginning of her ordeal. Tapan Sinha
Tapan Sinha (2 October 1924 – 15 January 2009) was one of the most prominent Indian film directors of his time forming a legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen. He was primarily a Bengali filmmaker who worked both in Hindi cinema and Bengali cinema, directing films like '' Kabuliwala'' (1957), ''Louha-Kapat'', ''Sagina Mahato'' (1970), ''Apanjan'' (1968), ''Kshudhita Pashan'' and children's film ''Safed Haathi'' (1978) and ''Aaj Ka Robinhood''. Sinha started his career in 1946, as a sound engineer with New Theatres film production house in Kolkata, then in 1950 left for England where he worked at Pinewood Studios for next two years, before returning home to start his six decade long career in Indian cinema, making films in Bengali, Hindi and Oriya languages, straddling genres from social realism, family drama, labor rights, to children's fantasy films. Tanuja Samarth, known mononymously as Tanuja, is an Indian actress who predominantly works in the Hindi film industry. Part of the Mukherjee-Samarth family, she is the daughter of actress Shobhna Samarth and producer Kumarsen Samarth, and was married to filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, with whom she has two daughters, actresses Kajol and Tanisha. Manoj Mitra (born 22 December 1938) is an Indian theatre, film and television actor, director and playwright. Early life Mitra was born on 22 December 1938 in Dhulihar village of Satkhira, Khulna, Bangladesh. Initially he used to study at home because his father Ashok Kumar Mitra, who had a transferable job. Mitra was attracted to the Jatras and plays that used to be held in their courtyard during the Durga Pujas but was forbidden by senior family members to participate in any way. His school life began after the Partition at a school (Dandirhat N.K.U.S. Niketan) near Basirhaat. Later he joined the Scottish Church College with honours in philosophy and graduated in 1958. He used to write short stories and many of them appeared in various magazines. It was at Scottish Church that he got initiated to theatre. The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) was established as a media unit of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in February 1964. It is was a member of the International Federation of Film Archives. In March 2022, it was merged with National Film Development Corporation.
