Action Sports Alliance
Action Sports Alliance (The Alliance) is a non-profit association of professional female skateboarders and other action sports athletes. The Alliance was founded in 2005 by Cara-Beth Burnside, Mimi Knoop, and Drew Mearns. Burnside was the first president. Action sports, adventure sports or extreme sports are activities perceived as involving a high degree of risk. Cara-Beth Burnside
Cara-Beth Burnside, nicknamed "CB" (born July 23, 1971 in Orange, California, United States), is a professional skateboarder and snowboarder and ranks amongst the top female athletes in these sports in the world. She was the first president of the Action Sports Alliance. Skateboarding Career Burnside started skating in men's amateur skating competitions in the 1980s due to the lack of women's skate contests. During this time, Burnside started to learn to snowboard due to the lack of professional opportunities for female skaters. Vert (sport)
Vert is a term used in extreme sports especially vert skating, vert skateboarding, snowboarding and BMX to denote a competition held on a vert ramp which allows the competitors to fly into the air and land back on the ramp. This time in the air allows the competitor to perform moves which would otherwise be extremely difficult. An example of this would be a flip, or a spin. The term itself comes from the word "vertical," the direction in which the competitor is moving after leaving the ramp. Ramps used in these events are usually vert ramps. Outside of competitions, the term ''vert'' is not normally used. Instead, the specific type of ramp is denoted. So instead of saying "I am going to go ride vert," one might say "I am going to go ride a half-pipe." However, it would be correct to say "in competitions, I usually ride vert," in order to differentiate from other forms of competition (such as freestyle, park or street). The X Games are an annual extreme sports event organized, produced and broadcast by ESPN. Coverage is also shown on ESPN's sister network, ABC.
