Act Your Age (Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band Album)
''Act Your Age'' is the fourth album by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. It received a Grammy Award nomination in 2008 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. Gordon Goodwin received nominations for Best Instrumental Composition ("Hit the Ground Running") and Best Instrumental Arrangement ("Yesterdays"). Guests include Chick Corea performing his own composition, "Señor Mouse". Another track incorporates Zenph Studios' re-performance of Art Tatum's 1949 recording of " Yesterdays" with a big band arrangement by Goodwin. The album includes a DVD containing recording studio footage and bonus features, such as a 5.1 surround sound mix of the album. Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, or simply The Big Phat Band, is an 18-piece jazz orchestra that combines the big band swing of the 1930s and 1940s with contemporary music such as funk and jazz fusion. The band is led by Gordon Goodwin, who arranges, composes, plays piano and saxophone. Since its origin, the Big Phat Band has received several Grammy Awards and many Grammy nominations. Its first album, '' Swingin' for the Fences'', was the first recording released on DVD-Audio and the first DVD-Audio to be nominated for two Grammy Awards. When he founded the Big Phat Band in 1999, Goodwin was working in Hollywood as a composer for Warner Brothers cartoons. Jerome David Kern (January 27, 1885 – November 11, 1945) was an American composer of musical theatre and popular music. Doug Lionel Sax (April 26, 1936 – April 2, 2015) was an American mastering engineer from Los Angeles, California. Patti Austin (born August 10, 1950) is an American R&B, pop, and jazz singer and songwriter. Music career Austin was born in Harlem, New York, to Gordon Austin, a jazz trombonist. She was raised in Bay Shore, New York on Long Island. Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington have referred to themselves as her godparents. Grant Geissman
Grant Geissman (born April 13, 1953) is an American jazz guitarist and Emmy-nominated composer. He has recorded extensively for several labels since 1976 and played guitar on the theme for ''Monk'' and other TV series. Career Geissman was born in Berkeley, California and grew up in San Jose. Gordon L. Goodwin (born 1954) is an American pianist, saxophonist, composer, arranger, and conductor. He is the leader of Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band.
