Joaquín Acosta
Tomás Joaquín de Acosta y Pérez de Guzmán (December 29, 1800February 21, 1852) was a Colombian explorer, historian, chorographer, and geologist. A native of Colombia in South America, he served in the Colombian army and in 1834 attempted a scientific survey of the territory between Socorro and the Magdalena River. Seven years later he explored western Colombia from Antioquia to Anserma studying its topography, its natural history and the traces of its aboriginal inhabitants. In 1845 he went to Spain to examine such documentary material concerning Colombia and its colonial history as was then accessible, and three years later he published his ''Compendio'', a work on the discovery and colonization of New Granada (Colombia). Manuel da Costa (1541 – 25 February 1604Diccionario universal de historia y de geografia. - México: Rafael, 1853-1855. - 7 vols.) was a Portuguese Jesuit and bibliographer from Lisbon. Manuel Gregorio Acosta (1921–1989) was a Mexican-born American painter, muralist, sculptor, and illustrator. His work received more recognition during the Chicano movement, and his portrait of Cesar Chavez was reproduced on the cover of ''Time'' magazine in 1969. Josephine Acosta Pasricha (born March 26, 1945) is a Philippines, Filipino indologist who translated the "Ramacharitamanasa" of Tulasi Dasa, the Hindi translation of the Ramayana by Valmiki in Sanskrit, into the Filipino language. Pasricha herself was mentored by Filipino indologist Juan R. Francisco. She made a complete unpublished Filipino language, Filipino translation of the seven books of the "Ramacharitamanasa" of Tulasi Dasa, accompanied with contextual, intertextual and textual analysis, and cross-references with Sanskrit, Hindi and English language, English translations.
