Acocks Green
Acocks Green is an area and ward of southeast Birmingham, England. It is named after the Acock family, who built a large house there in 1370. Acocks Green is one of four wards making up Yardley formal district. It is occasionally spelled "Acock's Green". It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. Stockfield was once a separate village located in the north of the ward. It merged with Acocks after housing developments during the 20th century. The ward now covers an area , including the Edenbridge Road Estate, Gospel Estate, Pemberley Road Flats, Stockfield Estate, part of the Tyseley Estate and the Yarnfield Estate. Fox Hollies
Fox Hollies is an area of Birmingham, England, situated on the edge of Acocks Green district. It is named after the Fox Hollies Hall estate. It roughly includes the area around Fox Hollies Road (part of the A4040 Outer Ring Road), stretching from Acocks Green in the north, to Hall Green in the south. A showpiece housing estate was built to the east of Fox Hollies Road in the 1920s, around Fox Hollies Park. There was also a pub called the Fox Hollies at the junction of Fox Hollies Road and Olton Boulevard East, but this closed in 1997 and has since been demolished to make way for a supermarket. Until 2004, one of the Birmingham City Council wards was named Fox Hollies. This area is now divided between the Acocks Green and Springfield wards. Yardley, Birmingham
Yardley is an area in east Birmingham, England. It is also a council constituency, managed by its own district committee. Historically it lay within Worcestershire. Birmingham Yardley is a constituency and its Member of Parliament is Jess Phillips, elected in May 2015. The area of Gilbertstone straddles the border of Yardley and South Yardley. Features Yardley's main shopping area is known as Yew Tree, named after the yew that stood, originally to the south of the roundabout, outside what was then Boots, then on the roundabout at the junction in the centre of Yardley. John Hemming (politician)
John Alexander Melvin Hemming (born 16 March 1960) is a British Liberal Democrat politician and businessman who served as the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley from 2005 until 2015. Hemming was an elected councillor for the South Yardley Ward and Group Chair of the Liberal Democrats on Birmingham City Council until 1 May 2008 and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley at the 2005 general election. He was the first Liberal Democrat or Liberal to represent a Birmingham constituency since Wallace Lawler had briefly held Birmingham Ladywood after a 1969 by-election. In 2004, Hemming became deputy leader of Birmingham City Council in a deal whereby the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats formed a coalition to jointly administer the council.
