Ace High (1918 Film)
''Ace High'' is a 1918 American silent Western film directed by Lynn Reynolds and starring Tom Mix, Lloyd Perl and Lewis Sargent. Plot Jean Rivard (Tom Mix) is a heroic Canadian Mountie who rescues his childhood sweetheart Annette Dupre (Kathleen O'Connor) from the clutches of an American sheriff. Action takes place primarily at a saloon called the Ace High. The bar is a popular hangout for criminals because at a moment's notice, it can be slid across the room from the United States into Canada, or vice versa as necessary. Lynn Reynolds
Lynn Fairfield Reynolds (May 7, 1889 – February 25, 1927) was an American director and screenwriter. Reynolds directed more than 80 films between 1915 and 1928. He also wrote for 58 films between 1914 and 1927. Reynolds was born in Harlan, Iowa and died in Los Angeles, California, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Death Returning home in 1927 after being snowbound in the Sierras for three weeks, Reynolds telephoned his wife, actress Kathleen O'Connor, to arrange a dinner party at their Hollywood home with another couple. During the dinner, Reynolds and O'Connor engaged in a heated quarrel in which each accused the other of infidelity. With his guests following in an attempt to calm him down, Reynolds left the table to retrieve a pistol from another room where he shot himself in the head. Virginia Lee Corbin
Virginia Lee Corbin (December 5, 1910 – June 4, 1942) was an American silent film actress. Early years Corbin was born Laverne Virginia Corbin in Prescott, Arizona to Leon Ernest Corbin and Virginia Frances (Cox) Corbin, and she had a sister, Ruth Emilie (Corbin) Miehle De Vries Lipari. Career Corbin began her career as a child actress in 1916, when she was billed as Baby Virginia Corbin. When she was six years old, she starred in fairy-tale films made by the William Fox Company. The success of ''Jack and the Beanstalk'' (1917) was such that Fox signed Corbin to a five-year contract. In addition to her salary, the contract specified that the company would provide instruction for her education. She went on to become a youthful flapper in the 1920s. Jay Morley (July 14, 1890 – November 9, 1976), was an American actor, active in silent films. Career Morley began his acting career in a traveling vaudeville act and performed in dramas with stock theater companies for five years. He had success in silent films, but retired at the beginning of the sound era to serve as sheriff of Malibu. He returned to films and television in the early 1950s. Colin Chase
Colin Chase (April 13, 1886 – April 25, 1937) was an American silent film actor. Biography Born in 1886 in Lewiston, Idaho, Chase signed for his first film role in 1915 and starred in about 45 films. In 1916, he signed a long-term contract with the Morosco-Pallas company. Chase often was cast as a villain in Westerns, sometimes being billed as Bud Chase. As a supporting player with Fox and other studios, he made the transition to sound films. He had been a cartoonist for a newspaper in Chicago and had performed in vaudeville. Chase died on April 25, 1937, a week after he became paralyzed, in Sawtelle, California. Lawrence Peyton (died October 10, 1918) was a silent film actor in the United States. He starred in the 1914 film based on Jack London's ''Martin Eden''. Personal life Peyton served as a private in the 813th Pioneer Infantry Regiment of the United States Army during World War I. He was killed in action in France on October 10, 1918, and was buried at the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery.
