Accident (1928 Film)
''Accident'' (german: Polizeibericht Überfall) is a 1928 German short film directed by Ernő Metzner. Plot The film centers on the struggles of a German citizen who happens upon a counterfeit coin lying in a gutter. The opening sequence of the movie gives a brief glimpse into the notion that the coin might be "cursed," as another passerby is struck down by a car while reaching for the coin in the middle of the road. Ernő Metzner
Ernő Metzner (February 25, 1892 – September 25, 1953) was a film director and production designer. Metzner was born in Subotica (then Austria-Hungary). He studied art at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts, then worked as a painter and graphic artist. In 1920 he moved to Berlin and began working as an art director and production designer with some of the best-known German directors of the time: Ernst Lubitsch ('' Sumurun, The Loves of Pharaoh''), Robert Wiene ('' I.N.R.I.'') and Karl Grune ('' Arabella''). From the 1926 ''Secrets of a Soul'' he developed a close and continuous partnership with Georg Wilhelm Pabst. Eduard von Borsody (; 13 June 1898 – 1 January 1970) was an Austrian cameraman, film editor, film director, and screenplay writer. Biography His film career began as a cameraman. Among his first jobs were three films on which Mihály Kertész (later Michael Curtiz) carried out the production design for the Vienna-based Sascha-Film: an Arthur Schnitzler adaptation ''Der junge Medardus'' (1923), the romance ''Fiaker Nr. 13'' and the artist's life ''Der goldene Schmetterling'' (both 1926). Later he worked with such different directors as Carl Wilhelm, Ernő Metzner, Gustav Ucicky and Max Nosseck. After the switch to sound film he was engaged by the German industry leader Universum Film AG (Ufa) as a film editor (cutter). Heinrich Gotho
Heinrich Gotho (May 3, 1872 – August 28, 1938) was an Austrian film actor. Born in Dolina (now in Ukraine), he started his acting career at some provincial theatres until he found an engagement at the Neues Volkstheater in Berlin. The character actor appeared in over 50 films between 1922 and 1933, mostly in smaller roles. He notably appeared in numerous films by director Fritz Lang, among them '' Dr. Mabuse the Gambler'' (1922), ''Metropolis'' (1927) and '' M'' (1931). Gotho was forced to retire from film acting in 1933; as a Jew he could no longer work in Nazi Germany. He died in 1938 in the ''Jewish Hospital'' of Berlin-Wedding. Sybille Schmitz
Sybille Maria Christina Schmitz (2 December 1909 – 13 April 1955) was a German actress. Biography Schmitz attended an acting school in Cologne and got her first engagement at Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1927. Only one year later, she made her film debut with ''Freie Fahrt'' (1928), which attracted her first attention from the critics. Her other early movies include Pabst's ''Diary of a Lost Girl'' (1929), Dreyer's ''Vampyr'' (1932), and eventually ''F.P.1'' (1932), where she played her first leading role. Schmitz established herself as a prominent actress in the German cinema with the films which followed including '' Der Herr der Welt'' (1934), ''Abschiedswalzer'' (1934), '' Ein idealer Gatte'' (1935), and '' Fährmann Maria'' (1936).
