The Accademia del Cinema Italiano ( en, Academy of Italian Cinema) is an organization that gives out the David di Donatello Awards. It was founded in 1955 as a part of the Open Gate Club, originally with the name ''Ente David di Donatello''. The organization became independent in 1963. In 2007 it assumed its current name. David Di Donatello Awards
The David di Donatello Awards, named after Donatello's ''David'', a symbolic statue of the Italian Renaissance, are film awards given out each year by the ''Accademia del Cinema Italiano'' (The Academy of Italian Cinema). There are 26 award categories, as of 2021. The industry-voted awards are considered the Italian equivalent of the American Academy Awards and rank among top-tier awards such as the Premio Regia Televisiva for television, the Premio Ubu for stage performances, the Sanremo Music Festival, and the annual Venice Film Festival, which hosts the Golden Lion film award. The ''Enciclopedia Italiana di Scienze, Lettere e Arti'' (Italian for "Italian Encyclopedia of Science, Letters, and Arts"), best known as ''Treccani'' for its developer Giovanni Treccani or ''Enciclopedia Italiana'', is an Italian-language encyclopaedia. Paolo Grassi
Paolo Grassi (30 October 1919 – 14 March 1981) was an Italian theatrical impresario. Grassi was born in Milan, Italy. As a young man, he worked in magazines and discovered a passion for the theater. It led him in 1937 to create a Bertoldissimo (musical work), which he oversaw and directed. He organized the theater company Ninchi-Dori-Tumiati and founded the avant-garde group Palcoscenico (Stage). Grassi was a Socialist. During the Second World War, he was conscripted into the army but went over to the Italian resistance movement, including working with the socialist newspaper ''Avanti!''. In 1947, with Giorgio Strehler, friend and associate, Grassi founded the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, the first Italian civic theater. It was later renamed, in his honor, the Teatro Paolo Grassi. In 1964, he purchased the Teatro San Ferdinando with Strehler, renaming it Teatrale Napoletana. Giuliano Montaldo
Giuliano Montaldo (born 22 February 1930) is an Italian film director. Biography While he was still a young student, Montaldo was recruited by the director Carlo Lizzani for the role of leading actor in the film ''Achtung! Banditi!'' (1951). Following this experience he began an apprenticeship as an assistant director of Lizzani and Gillo Pontecorvo, as well as appearing in the 1955 ''Gli Sbandati''. In 1960 he made his debut as a director with ''Tiro al piccione'', a film about the partisan resistance, which entered for a competition in Venice Film Festival in 1961. In 1965 he wrote and directed '' Una bella grinta'', a cynical representation of the economic boom of Italy, winning the Special Prize of the Jury at 15th Berlin International Film Festival. He then directed the production ''Grand Slam'' ( 1967) which starred an international cast including Edward G. Robinson, Klaus Kinski, and Janet Leigh.
